Being from England, I didn't think it was possible that people had not heard this album.
The album itself is fairly inconsistent, with my favourites being Fake Tales of San Francisco, Riot Van, Red Light Indicates Doors Are Secured and From The Ritz To The Rubble. Its a good album, but its hardly a modern classic, as suggested by the British public.

Arctic Monkeys are pretty cool, haven't listened to them in a long time though. Just looked at their page and had no idea they had no idea they had two albums between FWN and AM.
Alex Turner's live performance always rubbed me the wrong way, though.

Never heard it til I joined this site, but it's now one of my favorite albums of all time. I've never really been one for nightlife either but somehow it still hits hard. Love the aggression of the music and Turner's vocals. Would be on my short list for "desert island" albums. Tough to pick favorite tracks, all are truly great.

I don't see it as angsty but more energetic. Played a big part in my life. _________________

Not sure if any AM album beats up Is This It but I completely understand your point.
I agree with Antonio Pedro, I love this album but I prever Favorite Worst Nightmares aswell.
Still Take You Home is a great song!

This album's second in the genre for me, with Is This It by The Strokes as #1. I didn't really feel like it was that angsty or edgy.
Top songs for me are Mardy Bum, A Certain Romance, and When the Sun Goes Down.

I didn't care about them much when this album came out.
First I heard it it was too agressive to me, I thought I won't like this album at all.
Then I relistened and started to like it immediately. Something clicked.
One song goes to the other so fast, that it sometimes sounds to me like a big one-song album which is 40 minutes long. I don't know if you understand. It flows together so much even if the songs are inconsistent.
Songs I like the most are
I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor
Fake Tales of San Francisco
Still Take You Home
From the Ritz to the Rubble
