It's the opposite story with Roxy Music and Brian Eno. While they did work well together, this album, along with Stranded and Warm Jets, is proof that they were plenty functional separately. I'm not crazy about this one, but the high points on Country Life are more than enough to put it over the top here. I especially like the opening and closing tracks.

Country Life

I enjoyed Graham Central Station, but Country Life blew me away. Vote to Roxy. After four pairs of albums, I haven't heard a bad album yet this tournament.

Country Life by Roxy Music

Heart of A Saturday Night is totally growing on me. A lot! ... I'm starting to really get into the smooth sounds of A Heart of A Saturday Night. Guess it's not that surprising since I was really into Waits 70s stuff back in the 90s. I'd just forgotten how Las Vegas lounge-y it was!

haha. I love early Waits. It may not be the junkyard carnival of later Waits, but hokey may be a little extreme. Just listen to the backing band, especially that double bass. So good.

Haven't heard Country Life, but assuming it's roughly on par with Avalon this should be a blowout. Heart of Saturday Night is top 5 Waits any day of the week.

Country Life doesn't really sound much of anything like Avalon. Earlier Roxy Music is quite different than that.

There's also about 7 or more Waits albums I'd place over Heart

All of this. Still voted Waits though.

Hm, I may check it out, then.

I'd definitely put Swordfishtrombones and Rain Dogs above it, and probably Blue Valentine, but it would probably be around 4 or 5 for me. That being said, his discography is pretty hard to rank, haha.

Some you like just for the cover; others for the music. And then there are others that you like for the complete package.
