oh yeah that Atkinson is a weird album. The whole prosumer digital lofi where stuff sounds good but like you still have the intentional use of clipping on the mic at times, it's a weird vibe for sure and even if everything else is totally yr jam I could still see the album not working for someone because of that. I mean even I like it right now but I'm not sure how I'll feel when I get to the 15th playthrough.

Oh and here's another thing that came out and is fun

Hecker Leckey Sound Voice Chimera by Florian Hecker & Mark Leckey

It's the internal monologue of a Samsung refrigerator run through Hecker's whole computer noise extreme sound vibe. There's a playfulness to this one that maybe hasn't been as visible in Hecker's other work this decade, a very fine addition to his discography as a whole.

Oh hey and then this has a listed release date of 4-14-15 but my copy came in today

Batu Malablab by M.C. Schmidt

M.C. Schmidt from Matmos going solo (although working with some fine collaborators like Jon Liedecker/Wobbly), doing two sidelong pieces of gamelan type of stuff, theres prepared piano, lots of prepared piano, but also electronics and bird calls and a whole bunch of fun stuff, it's pretty great.

Beat The Champ by The Mountain Goats

I PERSONALLY WILL STAB YOU IN THE EYE WITH A FOREIGN OBJECT! FOREIGN OBJECT!

Don't doubt Darnielle guys, this despite it's theme continues the point that he isn't old hat. I loved Transcendental Youth and I'm loving this one too. "The Legend of Chavo Guerrero" is probably my favorite on the record so far, and you guys need to hear it when it comes out... or listen to it on youtube:

This may be the first year in which I genuinely like everything in BEA's top 10. amazing.

here's a couple you guys might dig.

Canned by Lost Boy ?

Fun, carefree indie rock

Wool Sucking by Eula

imagine a more post-punk influenced Sleater Kinney

totally. I really dig most of the top 20 with Godspeed, Jake Xerxes Fussell, Susanne Sundfor, Natalie Prass, and Tobias Jesso Jr. all having FANTASTIC albums in the back half of our top 20.

That top 5 especially is very solid. We've had a lot of great artists releasing material consistent with their reputation this year, so I've had to do less digging for quality. Still, the digging tends to pay off when I have time for it.

Thanks for the recs, btw, I'll add them to my list.

I'm curious to see where the new TMOE ends up on everyone's lists. It's drastically different than anything he's done before.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I will love it. And it will almost certainly end up being my 1st or 2nd most played record this year. To Pimp A Butterfly is pretty much unbeatable, but if anyone can it's the great Tallest Man On Earth.

I'm not gonna lie I'm definitely concerned about him changing sound up too much, making his music to full and too War On Drugs-esque. This could be his Bringing It All Back Home or The Shepherd's Dog/Bon Iver, Bon Iver. (Himt I adore the first, and was between a little and a lot let down by the last 2). Then again, this could be something all his own.

I'm excited to get ahold of that leak. ๐Ÿ˜‰

It's definitely interesting, but I think it's the next logical step in his evolution. He's shown hints of it ever since The Wild Hunt. There was a little electric in Sometimes The Blues Is Just A Passing Bird, and even more in There's No Leaving Now. It just seems like he's moving forward and I really commend him for that.

I will say that "Sagres" is the most drastically different song on the album, like that's the top end, the rest is more reserved than that for the most part.

Am I the only one that thinks Kintsugi is excellent? I kinda hated it at first, but came up on it a lot. I mean, fuck P4K's lazy-ass review. What does anyone else think?
