Ahh... This brings back a bucketload of memories. Bought it the second it came out (in the CD 'blister pack' that was designed to look like a tablet. Looked shite on my shelf in its squashed cardboard box next to Lazer Guided Melodies, which is still my favourite Pierce LP), listened to it on repeat for weeks and thoroughly adored it, then saw them perform close on the whole thing live at the Royal Albert Hall with my mate who was stoned out of his box.
To these ears at least, time's been relatively kind to it unlike a lot of mid-90s stuff the NME praised to the skies at the time (such as Urban Hymns, which I wouldn't have in my collection even if you paid me and let me shag Kate Radley). Cool Waves was always my favourite track - an audio massage of the soul after the emotional bruising you're put through with Broken Heart. Always though Cop Shoot Cop was about 9 minutes too long, but aside from that it's ace.
Fun fact - the aforementioned NME put this as their AOTY above OK Computer in '97. I concurred then, and still do now. _________________ 'Reggae' & t'ing

When I got married, we walked down the aisle to the title track. Need I say more about what this album means to me? _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

Cool Waves is gorgeous and my favourite thing on here (though there's a lot to like). It sounds so majestic and uplifting but bittersweet at the same time.

Makes sense. I wrote on my "review" that it sounded a bit like Pachelbel's Canon in D. Totally a fitting song to walk down the aisle is what I mean.
Also totally awesome. You now have more awesomeness cred and totally leveled up.

Took me a few listens for whatever reason, but I really do like this. And when I was in charge of a playlist the family thanksgiving, the title track was one of the songs people specifically asked about as they enjoyed it (just about my only playlist that was well received at a family function too.) _________________

I really hope to one day "get" this, but so often the Britpop sheen gets in the way of the psychedelia for me. Haven't heard it in years, though, so maybe it's time for another listen.

Saw them do the whole album in full about 5 or 6 years ago. A top 10 gig for sure. Mind you, every time I've seen them, bar once, they've been fantastic. The rubbish one was early on in a field at a festival, not the right setting. Possibly one the greatest bands to watch after a jazz tab.

hmmm... interesting.
I hate brit pop (Oasis/Early Blur), and loved it.
