Laid a lot of groundwork for the prog music to come, musically and conceptually. I have to revisit this one soon, and more of Tull's work in general.
By the way, is it just me or is 1972 arguably the best top 10 on this site? _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

It's funny that, in an attempt to make fun of prog rock, Jethro Tull ended up making the best prog rock album of all time.

This concept symphonic album, with only two long songs, got to #1 in US Billboard. My question is, has an album like this been #1 in the US in this century? Would any album like this be #1 ever again, even if it was considered better than this one?

I think you pose a great question. It's very hard to say if a record like this could be number one again. To me it would take one of two things happening.
1.) A number one artist would have to make the record. Kendrick, Drake, Metallica, Gaga, Eminem, Justin Timberlake.. etc. At this point those are your top sellers whenever they put out a record. Eminem's trash new reocrd just went number one and sold somewhere between 300-400k? There are only a handful of artists reaching those numbers.
2.) The landscape to change completely. We had it happen before, it in theory could happen again just as culture and the medium itself goes through its natural ebb and flows, we need an artist rebellion though haha. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.
