It's a pretty standard psychedelic garage rock, the likes of which were popularised by Tame Impala and Gizzard. Think of 12 Bar Bruise. I expected something much more off the beaten path and nuts. Was a bit disappointed, but it's still a solid album with some nice sounding guitars. Standouts are Dezi's Adventure, When In Rome and a 1 minute interlude Fields, Woods, Time which has some cool sounds, reminding me a bit of Hosianna Mantra. I expected the whole thing to sound like that tbh, I can see where "Psychedelic" and "Crumpets" comes from (I've never actually eaten crumpets but I imagine they are like a sweet tasting bread), but what about "Porn"? Something I'd like to hear live, and not on LP at home. 6.5 or 7/10

Chief go for that Die Verbannten Kinder Evas record, thought the name was familiar and googled it, it's actually a side project by the guys from Summoning. I'm a big fan, so this may be interesting.

A challenging, difficult listen that while I appreciate the artistry, and intention of the album, I can't honestly say I enjoyed. Which I realise is not the purpose of an album like this but it's one of the main reasons I listen to music. 6/10

I've seen them three times now being a local band, and I admit I am biased towards enjoying albums of bands I've seen live more than I would otherwise. It's like reliving the experience every time. Social Candy is the highlight of the album for me and was one of my favourite songs of 2018.
To be honest I haven't been that impressed with 2019 so far, (compared to the last 2 years which were awesome) and I think/hope I'm still yet to listen to the best albums of the year. What I have liked the most so far no one else seems to even listen to, or aren't impressed by if they do, but let's see what you make of Plague Vendor.

Yeah Social Candy and Keen for Kick Ons were on my shortlist too, great songs. I too find myself enjoying albums of bands I see live more, and quite a few albums that I've not been fond of have become my favourites after seeing the band live. This one began to lose me with "Diddy Bop" and never properly recovered. I love her jazzy, polyrhythmic approach to the beats, and some of them are pretty excellent, such as "Yesterday", "Casket Pretty", and "Shadow Man" (most of all). But, one problem I have is that the beats are fairly self-similar and the album as a whole fails to deviate from a very narrow style. I was waiting for some loftier, more engaging tracks, which didn't come. I can't say I was a fan of the guest appearances, either. I may revisit the three tracks I mentioned, but that'll be it.

I don't really feel like adding this one, which probably says a lot about it. I have listened to some albums like this before, but this one lacks any real depth to it. It's cheesy in a good way, like a lot of "neoclassical darkwave" is, but the sound palette is so limited on this album that it may as well had been one hour long track. First and last tracks were pretty good.
Jameth, it's got to be one of the most important hip hop albums of all time, Illmatic.

I tiptoed around this one for a long time...I guess I was expecting to be disappointed. My natural inclination is to compare it to Cuban Linx, but I don't think that would be fair until I've given it a few dozen listens. The breakbeats are killer, and Nas' technique seems to be pretty sophisticated, in line with a lot of rappers I've listened to from the late 80s and early 90s. I have no working knowledge of flow or rhyme or any elements of rap, which is frustrating, so it might be time for me to move beyond my shallow understanding of it. I'd love to be able to dissect what he's doing. But, my first (surface level) impression of it is that it's very, very good, even if I don't find it as thoroughly uncanny as Cuban Linx.
And why are so many major rap artists unable to top their debut albums? I've been noticing this more and more.

Heresie appears to be a pretty big deal with a large cult following, with over 1600 ratings on RYM. I'm listening right now, and it's a few shades lighter than something like Nature Unveiled, but it's stlil pretty dark. Definitely works from a much larger palette than your last album.

Pretty straightforward but very fun and catchy arena rock. I guess some punk influences too. Occasional cheesy lyric can be ignored because the energy (especially singer's) is great. This one's at its best when the singer goes in full screaming mode and the band follows. Mid-paced, quieter and more safe pop rock songs like All Of The Above and Night Sweats are the weakest points imo, although Let Me Get High / Low is an exception cause it's so groovy. And it's also one of my favourites here, along with the super opener New Comedown and the following Nothing's Wrong. Pain In My Heart would've also been my favourite if not for those "sha" vocals, goddamn stop it please. And clapping on the intro to Nothing's Wrong, why all the cliches?? Anyway a cool record all around and it doesn't drag for too long, which is a problem with many albums like these. 30 minutes is just about right. 7/10 from me.

Gorgeous minimalist art pop with lots of cello. I like this significantly more than World Of Echo on first listen (which is also very good). Wispy, fragile, very poignant music. I now realize this was put together posthumously, following his death from AIDS, which gives a new perspective to the music. 4/5.

That was cool to hear a Javanese album. Traditional but influenced by modern music. It was interesting to read about the different instruments they use. Having been to Indonesia and going to a traditonal music festival while we were there, my wife and my oldest son enjoyed it too. I really liked the sad Serat Salira - I assume it was sad, I obviously have no idea of the lyrics - and the Irish influenced Paddy Pergi Ke Bandung. 7/10 and 16/27 or 2012.
I used to have this on tape but probably haven't listened to it since the late 80's.I have fond memories of it though. The Style Council Baystate.
