I didn't see any point in skipping over The College Dropout to get to this, so I listened to both.
I think it's a lot less cringe-inducing than MBDTF, with a few fair tracks. There's certainly nothing that gets under my skin like "Runaway" does. But, going back in time certainly doesn't help to elevate Kanye's talent at the mic. His flow is still unremarkable; and while I applaud his effort to move hip-hop out of the shadow of gangsta rap, his lyrics don't impress me much more than his flow. Beat-wise, it isn't always happening, either. Not enough's done with some of the vocal samples ("My Way Home", for instance, you're essentially listening to GSH sing "Home Is Where The Hatred Is"), and so, those beats on the whole come across as half-baked. His backtracks, essentially, aren't as articulate or nuanced as other artists I've been listening to, and some of them I have to call out as generic club beats. That probably applies more to The College Dropout, but Late Registration doesn't get away from it entirely.
I do like "Heard 'Em Say" and "Roses".

Yeah I agree, their debut is great (Cheap Beer, Cocain, so many bangers) but nothing else they’ve released has really caught my attention. Looking forward to this one though _________________ Overall chart Fake overall chart

Starts with possibly the best song on the whole thing, Get Off My Rock. I hoped I was in for a fun ride, but the rest varied from boring to ok-ish, with a few exceptions in Alcohol, Too Real and the nice instrumental Almost Free. It seems they’ve lost their energetic punky vibe (except for the all too short Nuke) and are more of an average modern indie rock now unfortunately. 6/10

Much better than the last "Neoclassical Darkwave" album I listened to in both substance and style. If I'm being completely honest, some of it is still very cheesy, but in an endearing and unique way that only this niche subgenre can really do. I guess the French have a knack for this, because the other bands in this genre that I've enjoyed mostly come from there.
Sorry Ledzep, it seems that I'm your shepherd through Purplepash's chart, and I can't pass up Face Stabber. Although the long tracks aren't really necessary, the rest of the album is killer.

This starts off well enough, but quickly begins to overstay its welcome despite its short run-time. The songs are fairly repetitive; it took me a minute to realize that "Party Police" had ended and "The Agency Group" had begun. I honestly thought they had rested for a bar. The homogenous production doesn't do it any favors either, everything sounds lost behind a wall, similar to Psychocandy. It's not unpleasant, and I really didn't mind hearing it, but it's pretty one-dimensional and not something I'm likely to go back to.

This is the first time I have listened to anything from Porcupine Tree or Steven Wilson. I hadn't even heard of them until this site where I started seeing their albums on a lot of charts. It's good to finally check them out. Although this was decent I think I just wanted it be a bit more than it was - more metal, or more heavy, or more proggier, or something. It was a bit too lite for me to rate highly. Open Car, and The Start Of Something Beautiful where probably the most interesting on first listen, and I enjoyed Arriving Somewhere But Not Here as well. So good but not quite my taste to rush to relisten or explore more. 7.5/10, and 23/31 for 2005.
Jameth, Wildflower by The Avalanches. I was a bit harsh on this album when I listened to it but over the last couple of years some of the songs have really grown on me. I think it deserves another shot some time and I'm sure I would rate it higher then.

Pretty much the Anticon manifesto; I can't believe that this album was not in my life sooner. A hip hop album that will make you question what you've been doing with your life.
I just came across this elsewhere and put it on, and had to dig up what you had to say about it. Glad it's got your endorsement.
That album does have my endorsement, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to many people though, because Doseone and Slug both have challenging and weird deliveries for hip hop. 😁
Well, I listened to this one instead, because it was higher rated on RYM. Probably shouldn't listen to two Neoclassical Darkwave albums that close together, because they're not very exciting. Oh well, at least I have a soundtrack for if I ever live in a Medieval castle I guess.

I've known of Sluggo and Atmosphere for years, so I was good with it. Doseone absolutely slays "The Scarecrow Speaks"...the album was worth it for that alone.
