My favourite thing about this album is that you can tell it took 16 years by the sound of some of the tracks. 'If I Was a Folkstar' for example sounds like an early-00's Daft Punk track, 'The Wozard of Iz' also sounds like it was from about the same time. Despite the fact that some tracks may sound 'old', it still comes together because that's exactly the feeling the album is going for. This whole album feels like a huge, joyful nostalgia trip, even though it's only a couple of weeks old.
I personally found this album much more enjoyable than Since I Left You. Hopefully we'll get the next one before 2032! (Edited)
It had been such a long time since the last Avalanches release (SIXTEEN YEARS, PEOPLE) that I wasn’t really that hopeful for this. Absurdly, even though this is the same kind of plunderphonics they were hawking back in 2000, it’s landed at just the right time to sound fresh and new again.
Best track: Because I’m Me. Not a million miles away from Since I Left You in its construction, but who cares.
I've listened to Since I Left You it seems like a thousand times since the day it dropped, and for some reason Wildflower just doesn't cut it. No flow, and a similar approach with no improved skill. Hate Frankie Sinatra and tried several times to listen to the full album and wanted to tear my hair out before it was half way through. I tried and still disappointed.
I cannot compare this to SILY because I have never heard that album, in fact I had never heard of this band before listening to this album and all I can say is WOW! This was a very original album and I had never heard anything quite like it. It is a definite high point in a year where music has so far been disappointing.
