This is either shit or genius. I never enjoy listening to death grips - it's a little like a mosh pit you know you are going to get punched in the face in. But you do it anyway cause it's different. What I do appreciate though are some of the textured sounds developed here and a very well formulated display of mania. 3/75 or something.

R.I.P by Actress
Thanks for this Chief, I was hoping someone would pick Actress. I'm a fan of his 2010 record Splazsh, it's on my 2010s chart, and that one has a bit more techno and house feel. Meanwhile R.I.P. is much more experimental, with harsher/dirtier production and more complex sounds. I enjoyed it a lot, probably even more than Splazsh, and I'll add it to 2010s chart sometime soon, after several more listens. 8.5/10

Candlemass. I'm pretty sure you'll like it, it's very epic and catchy doom album, with classic magic, demons and wizards stories. Epic doom is an underrated genre.

Well, as the cover and name suggests, this is some brutal grindcore that is instrumentally great, but the vocals are completely comical. I don't mind screaming and growled vocals, but this dude just does the same low growl and higher pitched scream the entire album. It's a bizarre choice.
I had no idea Scott Walker and Sunn made a record. That sounds rather strange.

Yeah - I could see if I were more into metal I'd probably like this over some others I've heard. Having said that I did feel like it fit a certain mold. Like I like Muse, but they fit this mold that gets annoying after a while and I see that in this band in a different genre and style. I didn't get turned off by it, but neither did I love it. 80/3.5.

What a great album! Every song was great. Well structured indie rock songs with a bit of a post-rock vibe to them. Great dynamics and I really like the sound of his voice. I can see why this is an acclaimed indie rock album of the 90's. What is a mystery is how I had never heard of them until I joined this site a few years ago (I blame the Australian radio stations), and why has it taken me so long to listen to them (I only heard Keep It Like A Secret about a month ago). 8.5/10, 14/47 for 1997, and 77/100 in my 90's decade chart.

Solo guitar improvisation is really hard to sit down and listen to for 42 minutes and have it be enjoyable. I know that's not the point, but no matter what I'm listening to, I need to be able to actually enjoy myself and not wonder what it is I'm doing with my life. It's not bad, and it's so close to being good, but it falls short. I get it, I like the experimentation and unique sounds, and I understand why he was a big deal in this scene, but if I want to listen to solo improvisation from the 70s, then I think I'm going to stick to the more dynamic Fred Frith.
Purple, man, there are so many good choices there. It's hard for me to pick. I'll always recommend a great hip hop album though, so I'm going to go with Liquid Swords.

Another great Sabbath album! As of now, they are easily my favorite metal band. Heaviness this satisfying plus vocals and songwriting this solid is a winning combo. And the instrumental track "Fluff", which is not metal or even rock, is gorgeous. 4/5.

I wish I could say I liked this, but I didn't. Let Love In was much better. It felt a bit sappy... like soft rock stuff I don't typically like, yet I know Nick Cave is supposed to be good stuff... idk, maybe it's cuz I'm not a nick cave fan so seeing him do something different didn't appeal to me... dunno. 75/3.
Also I have to second Sabbath being the best metal band to my liking at least. Not only do you great vocals, but you have Geezer.

This 10 minute EP is a fun little bit of sonic manipulation with some forward thinking moments. I'll listen to some more of her work eventually, because she's got a pretty cool story, and the way she makes some of her music is crazy.
Seth, that's way too much metal. And ones I'm sure you're not going to like, so go with Tim Hecker.

I know Wu Tang Clan are a favourite here so I'm sorry, but this was okay. I liked the chilled beats with an eerie edge, and the overall tone they gave the album. I tried - but most of the lyrics went over my head - I'm like that with most poetry too so that's my problem. 7/10, and 28/32 for '95.
