Flood by Boris

I really enjoyed this. Great atmospheric music. I liked track three the most, which is ironic because it's the most metal track. I guess I'll need to try more metal that sounds like that. Looking forward to checking out the rest of their discography. 3.5/5.

Individual Thought Patterns by Death (Metal)

I liked this better than The Sound of Perseverance or Symbolic, especially the bass tone/runs/ and ACTUAL rhythm - like really cool syncopation coming from the rhythms section, something that usually turns me off with metal (the lack thereof... its usually just someone drooling as their bassist... ok not always, but often enough in metal to make me less interested).Dig the fretless bass too. Drums are incredible. And I didn't want to laugh at the vocalist. Oh and there was indeed a guitarist whose tone also wasn't laughable. 4/85 - a higher rating than it probably deserves because I really do think this is one of the best metal albums I've heard. 85 and up is something I give to stuff I'd want to listen to again and soon... not 100% this album fits that, but I am indeed floored here, and not in a flashy vegas way... clearly not rooted in hair metal and it's darkness is believable. And good lord, did I mention the bass is amazing?

Film Music by Vladimir Ussachevsky

This has the "Line of Apogee" tracks on it plus some others. I think I'm hitting my boredom mark with Tape Music and Musique Concrete. I've heard enough of it by now that I'm not surprised or enthralled by much anymore. There are certainly some interesting sounds and textures present on this album, but it didn't make much of an impression on me.

Right back atcha Seth. Let's take it from the top.

The Holy Bible by Manic Street Preachers

I'm not sure what is happening here but this album is something that I should really like, but for someone reason it just didn't grab me all that much. This sort of British punky alternative rock from that era would usually be exactly my sort of thing. Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood for this today. 7.5/10, and 33/57 for 1994.

Ancestors Call by Huun-Huur-Tu

Expected nothing less from Lowkey's chart. Excellent stuff throughout the whole record. The overall mood and atmosphere is really intriguing and it comes off as a complete piece. Favourites are some of the longer songs (Orphan's Lament, Odugen Taiga) which create an epic landscape and a real Russian taiga forest vibe (if that makes any sense lol). 8.5/10

Ulvesang by Ulvesang
I have a problem with neofolk/darkfolk. It has all the elements of music that I usually love: dark and eerie atmosphere, quality songwriting and often some bells and whistles to keep you entertained throughout (backing vocals, sound collage, some etno/folk instruments etc.). However I'm never as blown away as I should be, at least not when the plain neofolk is in question (without black metal or strong ambient influences). This one was no different, I enjoyed it a lot (I was reading Dracula so it was quite fitting), but wasn't really blown away. Still definitely a solid record, 8/10.

Happy Nightmare Baby by Opal

A different approach to the Paisley Underground scene than Dream Syndicate and Rain Parade, but with equally effective results. Very well-executed late 60s early 70s guitar rock, with an 80s sensibility. Supernova really blurred the lines between those elements. Awesome song.

Ledzep, 2 8 1 4 is the highest rated "vaporwave" album on RYM. It's not necessarily that, but it's a great ambient album.
