Sorry roundthebend, had a lot of stuff to do this week and not nearly enough time for music (except a concert yesterday).

I mean there literally isn't a genre that's not represented here. Mostly it's psychedelic and experimental rock and electronica, but there's a lot of ambient parts too. Seems pretty interesting and good, need to listen to it several more times, but I wanted to get it out of the way to give you an album seth. 8/10

Thanks LedZep! I appreciate the withdrawal joke and the effort. What concert?

Ella Fitzgerald Sings The George And Ira Gershwin Songbook by Ella Fitzgerald

I once dated a girl who I asked who she liked better - Ella or Billie... she answered Ella and we stopped dating... hhehe, partially kidding. I like Ella don't get me wrong, she's got an amazing voice. It felt like Christmas a bit listening to this album because she has that near crooner sound. Anyway, I found this good, but not great. Like something about Ella is a bit dry for me compared to some of her contemporaries, even though she's a BETTER singer... don't get it, but I'm pretty hard to get sometimes.

EDIT: I did not listening to the near 4 hour release of this, rather the original release which was not a 4 hour release.... dammit, I did that on my phone and I guess what I was looking at my phone was wrong... it's orginal release is indeed a 5xLP. Dang that's pretty hardcore given 1959. I only listened to disk 2.... maybe this record will convince me after all...

I'll totally come back to this then!

EDIT of my EDIT, so I can EDIT while EDITING: I think my initial analysis is still true, but there were a handful of tracks where I really appreciated her alto voice going low or there were times when she really hit a chord with me in other ways. It still is a bit too prim for me and I like the sassier Billie.

I've been wanting to listen to this ever since I heard Long Season. I love live music and that translates to live music albums too....especially when they are as good as this! Great introduction, builds strongly getting better and better as it goes along, just like a live performance should. Keeping me entranced in the wonderful, unique, strange but familiar music. The live version of Long Season here is fantastic, and the highlight of the performance. Over two impressive hours just flew by without any let up of entertainment. 8/10, and comes in at 16/44 in my 1999 chart.

Back to the metal with some Atheist next Seth.

The Netherworlds was bland and not very engaging.

To be honest I'd rather be listening to Digable Planets.

Bon Iver by Bon Iver
I've listened to 22, A Million and their newest prior to this one and it's fair to say that I was not a big fan of those. This one was certainly a bit more engaging, but all the same problems remain. The songwriting is not really great (it's more inconsistent than straight up bad though), and Vernon's vocals are at times unbearably boring, lifeless and whiney. The worst kind of vocals in indie music, and the reason I dislike many popular indie bands. That being said, the production was for the most part unique, the sound was full and I liked sax and trumpet inclusions quite a bit. It was also coherent, although that made it a bit monotone to me since it felt like it's all a bit samey, but I guess it's a positive quality if you like Bon Iver. Some tracks were good though, like Perth, Minnesota WI, Towers and Beth/Rest (that one sounded a bit like an Eagles track with modern production). In the end I'd say that it has roughly the same amount of ups and downs, and it's better than the other 2 Bon Iver albums I've listened to, 6.5/10

The Seer by Swans

The musicianship is strong as usual, but this feels a bit aimless, and lacks sufficient direction to be a successful two-disc epic. If they had cut it down to one disc by eliminating the weaker tracks, this would have been much better. My least favorite of the three Swans albums I've heard. Still, it was pretty good and worth a listen. 3/5.

Booby Trap by Radioactive Man

Album Cover: Great

Name: Great

Music Also pretty damn good.

Fun and engaging electro/IDM tunes that utilize a wide sound palette. A few tracks may overstay their welcome by a minute or so, but that's usually the case with albums like this. I think this is one that may even grow on me in the future as tracks like "Airlock", "Ruby Rage", and "Fed Ex to Munchen" have gotten themselves into my head. Happy I found this weird little album.

Here's the good RYM chart I picked it up from. https://rateyourmusic.com/list/Accelerando_/odd-electronica-1990s-and-beyond-1/

Baystate, some really good options there, but I'm going to go with The Jam. Some great ones on that record.

Unquestionable Presence by Atheist

Wow, musically this is quite impressive. Guitar/Drums/and especially the bass. I just wish their singer wasn't laughable (for me). Like I just can't take shit like that seriously. I did listen to a track from the live performance and the vocals sound a bit better, so maybe this band is better live. They sound a little more like a truly bothered soul instead of a joke (I imagine that's the attempt here at least - true anguish or anger or whatever... but it just seems laughable to me for some reason). Alas, I'm torn - amazing musicianship and even songwriting- there's some really cool dynamics/song structures that are clever/intriguing, but then dude just shits on top of it all and it ruins it for me. 3/75.

2. Take it from the top Chief. Also LedZep, I feel you on the Bon Iver stuff. The music scene here was inundated with stuff that sounded that way and I absolutely hated it. Having said that with only one song (agree with your assessment of the album as a whole), sometimes that vocal becomes something else - a bit eerie and actually unique. I have come to appreciate... even like Holocerne or however it's spelled.

Reachin' (A New Refutation Of Time And Space) by Digable Planets

This is the sort of 90's hip hop I can get into. Chilled, jazzy beats with some funkiness and soul to them, that compliment the vocals without being distracting, or demanding attention at any time. The vocals are great and I love the way they work together. The lyrics have a positive vibe to them and are understandable. La Femme Fetal was really well done. An enjoyable listen. 7.5/10 and 27/37 in my 1993 chart.

I've never heard a Dio album so let's try that Seth.
