Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 4% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.2/100, a mean average of 76.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.0.

Not bad heavy metal record, I just don't think that this is as strong as greatest Dio's work with Sabbath or Rainbow.

In the top 3 of all he's done. By far the best of his solo albums. On par with the mighty 'Rainbow Rising'. Only surpassed by the ultimate 'Heaven & Hell'. A trifecta like that makes him one of the greatest vocalists ever.

The best work of the greatest Heavy Metal singer of all time. Dio established the sound of Hard Rock of the 80´s.

Highlights: Shame On The Night, Caught in The Middle, Holy Diver and Rainbow In The Dark.
The not so good one: Invisible.

An excellent metal album which I have gotten into more with repeated listens. 'Holy Diver' and 'Don't Talk to Strangers' are awesome metal tracks, in fact the latter is one of my all time favourite metal tracks. A very underrated metal classic.

After the amazing work from Dio with Rainbow and Sabbath, this falls flat for me. Rainbow In The Dark and the title track are OK.

Decent album. Would be a good music to do something along with it, like video games or chores around the house. I will probably never just sit down and actually LISTEN to it again. Just good background music.

Dio's first solo album was his best solo album. Hated to see him leave Sabbath, but this is a nice consolation prize. Bona fide classics with the title cut, Caught in the Middle, and Rainbow in the Dark.

step 1: win a huge hand at the poker table without looking at your cards.

step 2: stand up and tell everyone to "suck it."

step 3: face the bar and yell "woooo!" while making a motion that presumably instructs everyone and no one in particular to "suck it."

step 4: cash out b4 the next hand is dealt.

step 5: play "holy diver" on the jukebox for the millionth time.

step 6: leave the bar b4 the riff even kicks in while waving to the other poker players with their money still in your hand.

that's the insult and injury, the double whammy, the "holy diver hit and run." nobody likes it. some will hate you more for winning, some for leaving, but most will hate you for playing holy diver.

solid metal album that I was forced to listen to in college as my roommate only had 20 albums and they were all metal. You can still jam out to this album today
