2020 albums

We're already a week in 2020 and I think we're due a thread. I have no inspiration so I'll just copy what CGD wrote last year: What album is everybody popping their 2020 cherry with?

ComptonAssTG's Real Crip Streeta is excellent if you like snarling, paranoid, West Coast gangsta shit. Easily one of the very best rap albums of 2020 so far.

Thanks. What would the others be in your opinion?

In rough order, starting with my favourite at the top, here are the rap albums/mixtapes/EPs that I've really enjoyed this year:

Boldy James & The Alchemist - The Price of Tea in China
ComptonAssTG - Real Crip Streeta
Jay Electronica - A Written Testimony
Drakeo the Ruler - Free Drakeo
Tree - The Blue Tape
BlueBucksClan - Clan Way 2
R.A.P. Ferreira - Purple Moonlight Pages
BK THE RULA - Love Santana
Sada Baby - Brolik
Lil Uzi Vert - Eternal Atake
DigDat - Ei8ht Mile
The Jacka - Murder Weapon (posthumous)
J Hus - Big Conspiracy
Slim Guerilla - 3rd Coast SG
Pop Smoke - Meet the Woo 2

I've been mildly underwhelmed by hip-hop releases this year, but the above are all very good (or at least very fun).

This just came out yesterday, and it's excellent. R.A.P. Ferreira is Milo's new alias, and the album has some production from Kenny Segal. Pretty laid back album but thoughtful and funny.

Purple Moonlight Pages by R.A.P. Ferreira

Okay then, this is really good. Props to Milo. Easily the best album I've heard this year so far. Not going to lie, it's the sort of record I wish Kendrick would try to make.

Going to throw these out there:

Grande Est La Maison by Cabane

Art doesn't reflect the music. Thought it'd be microhouse or something. It's really a collab between Bonnie "prince" Billy, Cabane and Kate Stables. Lovely work.

Echos by Beatriz Ferreyra

I think these tracks are originally from the 70s or 80s, but never released as an album. I might be wrong... not sure... because they sound like they were made yesterday. Sound manipulation/ambient work composed from magnetic tape. Little spooky. Props to Ferreyra, she's in her early 80s.

Guerrilla by Nazar

Post-Industrial? But very dense, smooth post-industrial. Worth a spin.

Clarence Clarity dropped an ambient album today. It's very good, perfect for this COVID19 stage

Arca's new album is out. Just very secretly.

EDIT: Also, this new Dua Lipa album is straight bangers. Looks like she's taken a leaf out of Jepsen's book.
