Had you said Demon Days I'd be excited. But I get what you are saying and not trying to downplay anything someone likes, just saying it's sad when "good artists" kinda falter/hard to accept their new reality.
It's an interesting phenomenon how a lot of artists peak early. I don't want to muddy this thread with that discussion, but interesting indeed. Others get better with age. Not all things get better with age... 🤣

It's somewhat of a revelation discovering Kanye all over again. You know that feeling when the very popular artist you've always liked and respected but never loved suddenly clicks and you're left wondering "why did I only hear this a few times years ago and that's it"? Cause this is fantastic. I can definitely say that his early phase was better than anything he's done in recent years except maybe Yeezus (that's not that recent but yeah). The College Droput isn't quite as good as Late Registration, but it's hard to deny the compeling songwriting and very inventive ideas for 2004. How the hell do you manage to get Common, Talib Kweli, Jay-Z, Mos Def and a bunch of others to feature on your debut? I mean he was a big producer name in the early 00s before his solo career, but it's still impressive. You all know who Kanye is and what his debut's about so I'll just say that Get Em High is such a banger, I can't believe that I didn't have it on my party playlist up until now. It's not my favourite song overall (that'd be Two Words), but I have a feeling it'll be a hit with my friend group, a lot of them are casual Kanye fans. 8.5/10

Threw this album onto the list despite a gnawing feeling I'd heard it before, and indeed I had. However, a thoroughly pleasant revisit, even if it only lightly touches on the funk elements I'd been anticipating, leaning on some Latin-style grooves at times and occasionally threatening to bust out some wild, Hazel-esque guitar squalls but never going all the way, or at least never pushing them completely to the fore. However, to suggest this album is in some way restrained would be a gross injustice, teeming as it is with ideas, genuine joy, and wonderfully dissonant trumpet solos. Best of all is the 16 minute closer, which evolves from bluesy, cool, call-and-response vibes into jittery, fidgety free jazz and beyond, including a section in which noisy synths and acoustic piano and xylophone/vibraphone fight it out for dominance in a dance that is utterly thrilling. An excellent record, if not necessarily the type of funk I was hoping for.

Well wow wowzers this was truly amazing! I think its my fave, actually it definitely is, Avalanches album. I know their debut is a classic but It was always an album that never quite broke through from enjoyment to love. This album I love. Its a great flowing upbeat almost uplifting musical journey with some incredible features and all the musical ideas are great and brilliantly executed. I never was remotely disinterested or unsatisfied by anything the entire 71 minutes. When I saw its length at first I was a little dreading it. I like short albums. But no this flew by. And I will listen again soon. For now Its #4 on my 2020 chart, just behind Adrianne Lenker and just ahead of Laura Marling.

I really begin to like this game, it is full of twists. From metal to hard rock to blues in a space of only 3 albums. If you asked me my favorite blues artist, I'd probably say The White Stripes, which speaks volumes about my -embarassingly little- knowledge of this genre. But this one was easily enjoyable even for me. The first track tries to trick you, it's a simple, traditional, "less is more" tune that goes full substance and almost zero style. The rest of the album is a completely different beast, though. Jamming like there's no tomorrow, the guitar is on fire. You could make an argument againist the duration, as some tracks were a bit on the longer side, but the groove is real no matter what. The vocals are direct, they get their point across without any trouble. I'm gonna say 70/100 for now, but it's an album I will definitely re-listen and can imagine growing on me, my favorite so far.

Well for Bend, do I jam to Mariah? Of course. While I did enjoy her recent album from 2018 a fair bit, I wouldn't say that was an all time favorite. Her 1997 album Honey is an absolute favorite of mine and a high runner for my top 10 of 1997 as of now. Need to go through more of that year to make sure that is a true statement. For my third album from her, this would be second place as of now. Even though the majority of this album is more ballad eques, which might be a criticism for some people isn't much for me. Felt like her ballads still had emotion as well as swelled really nicely. There are usually elements of gospel that just gets me smiling. And the three bops, Dream Lover, Now That I Know and I'm Been Thinking About You are bops. I wouldn't say there is anything wrong with this album. Grade wise it would be a 90 maybe a possible 95 once I give Mariah whole discography a listen it could go up. And I would also say that Janet had a more fulfilling record. But still an excellent pop/r&b album.

If I decide to go for 2002, I would like to clean up 2000 and 2001 up since there are still some albums in the top 100. While I don't know what 60's year I will hit. Maybe 67?
In The 7th Moon, The Chief Turned Into ...i Allstars
This is some pretty damn cool tradi-modern. An excellent combination of jangly, psychedelic guitars, tribal (but polished) drumming, loads of interesting percussion and sparse but weirdly warm electronic melodies. Sometimes there's these bouncy synth (I guess it's synth) lines that remind me of Kuti's funky, psychedelic motifs. After all this time trying to get into African music it still seems that chanted vocals are the toughest thing for me to appreciate. They aren't bad or anything, it's just that they don't do much to elevate the music imho. In fact, the only song where the vocals were excellent was Mpombo Yetu. That one and the instrumental composition Beyond the 7th Moon were my favourites. The only other complaint is that some songs could've been shorter, but they do induce a trance-like state, so I guess it's doing what they were trying to accomplish. And yeah, the album name is GOAT. Cool listen. 7.5/10

Wow! Three albums in one day. Haven't had that in a while. Especially with my new job. As I type this I have to go to bed real soon for an early start tomorrow. But with this album, this is now second place for the true blue metal album. Very entertaining. Never lose any interest. Never gives up the energy and provides variety within the length time. I think the only complaint I would have with this album, it would be I kind of wish some of the tracks were a bit longer just to give the tracks in the first half had a satisfying finish. Felt like there could be a little more wiggle room. But otherwise, another personal favorite for Metal. And I do want to dig into more of Death.
Grade:95 Also didn't realize it was Patterns. Not Process. Honestly, that mishap made the album sound cooler.
