Head Injuries by Midnight Oil
One of their earlier albums and they would become much better on the later ones but they're getting there with this one. And it moves up a few ranks from 53 to 42.

Door, Door by The Boys Next Door
Again a band I didn't know at all until I discovered this was predecessor of The Birthday Party already with singer Nick Cave. And the thing is: the sound is as weird as the Birthday Party but the songs are not at all as aggressive. The album loses some points because of the low production quality but overall I fairly liked it and it enters at the 31st rank.
Searching For The Young Soul Rebels by Dexys Midnight Runners
Fairly low ranked but this is an absolutely fantastic album where soul music is in a perfect marriage with a very punky atmosphere. Geno is the best example of that: it's rawkish but it's fine soul music through and through. And so is the rest of the album. I bumped it up from the 57th to the 38th rank.

Ihre Größten Erfolge by Extrabreit
A German punk album and the best thing about it is it's title because it was their debut album. It has a certain catchiness but there is not one track that I feel I need to listen to again. So I haven't included the album in my year chart.
Killers by Iron Maiden
I think I underestimated this last Di-Anno a bit because these is in a sense also a transitional album to their more epic albums with Bruce Dickinson as is proven by already great tracks like Murders in The Rue Morgue but also a miss like Prodigal Son where they venture into prog territory without the Iron Maiden swagger. And they still knew how to write more pointy tracks like Wrathchild and the title track (which is however over 5 minutes long). So all in all an album that does belong amongst the Iron Maiden classics and it moves from the 29th to the 9th rank of the year.

Stands For Decibels by The dB's
A powerpop album with some attempts to experiment. The only thing the experiments sound very dated and also the powerpop sounds a bit clumsy to modern ears. Black In White is not bad but overall the album didn"t really appeal to me.
Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
I can't help it but I like the extravert Bruce more than the introvert Bruce. But that of course doesn't mean that I don't like Nebraska. There are some really good tracks here like the title track and Reason To Believe. But overall there are a bit too many tracks that are a bit too country mellow to my taste and don't really touch me so the album only rises from the 49th to the 46th rank of the year. But one of those album which make me think I shouldn't rank my albums track by tracks but as an album as a whole: it would certainly end higher then.

Event Horizon by The Necessaries
Not a bad powerpop album especially on the first half, but the second half seems to lower that standard a bit. Enters at the 28th rank.
Swordfishtrombones by Tom Waits
One of the best Tom Waits albums although fairly low rated in my year chart. But the album rattles and finds its uneasy way to your and my ears (see 16 shells...) and in general I like it. And there's that beautiful In The Neighbourhood in which he makes a 'fanfare' sound ominous. But the album only rises from the 39th to the 31st rank (ps: same remark as for Nebraska).

The voice of Anja Huwe nearly sounds exactly like Siouxsie's and the music is also dark and rhythmic but maybe stylishly it sounds a bit more like ex bauhaus. I must admit I liked it a lot and it enters at the 23rd rank of the year.

The Unforgettable Fire by U2
I adore the first three albums because of that wide open sound and their enthusiasm and fantastic songs. This is their fourth and a bit of an inbetween album in the sense that they still have this sound (on the level of Bono's voice and The Edge's guitar) but that they're trying to do their best to write more diverse songs. But they still shine more in what they do best like on Pride (although I've heard it maybe a bit too much) and the fantastic Bad. But it also means that while on their former albums I liked all the tracks, this isn't the case any more here: Promenade, 4th of July and Elvis Presley and America are not really their best. And the album moves from the 37th to the 30th rank.

Walking In The Shadow Of The Big Man by Guadalcanal Diary
And again an album and band I already wanted to discover a long time, not in the least because of that peculiar band name. And it was worth it. There are a lot of resemblances to R.E.M. but that doesn't matter because they do have an own sound which sounds soundly sound. Especially the first tracks are very good. And already good for the 17th rank.

The Head On The Door by The Cure
In my view not their best but there are some very good hits to be found here: In Between Days, Close To Me and A Night Like This. But the tracks which were not hits are not really that strong so the album remains a bit of a mixed bag and it only rises from the 32 to 23th place in my top chart.

Rites Of Spring by Rites Of Spring
Overall (post-)punk which is not bad but overall it is also missing something on all levels, lyrics, songs, the deliver, the guitars, etc. So all songs are ok and Theme and End On End are even a bit more than ok but I chose not to include the album in my year chart of 1985.
