At the beginning of this album for the first three tracks, I was thinking this would be way higher for the canon list. Those tracks were some barn burners. And after those three tracks, the rest of the album does have some barn burners that has that southern hospitality. But it is lower in the canon for me due to how the slower tracks while some work pretty well "I Want Everything" is my favorite of that bunch, those tracks feel like they slow down the momentum of the album. As well as those tracks don't feel as entertaining as it could be. I don't mind slow songs, but there has to be more going on to keep me occupied. And the two interlude tracks weren't that good. Those felt unnecessary. But the rest of the tracks were great. If this was trimmed down to the best moments, it would be way higher but otherwise it is an 85. Range is in the decent side.

Hmm - idk why but I wanted this album to be one or the other and didn't like how it played with jazz and ambient music at the same time. I mean in an alternate universe that sounds amazing, but my experience wasn't somehow. It's just me. Still quality stuff.

On one hand, it's pretty incredible that this was Santana's 14th album. That's almost an album a year since their debut. However, it also means that they have a ton of misses in their discography, and this one may be the most blatant. Once again, this is the exact sound that I'm looking for. The completely sterile sound of the mid80s. It's also sad to hear how any latin sound is pretty much nonexistent on this album and just replaced by white guy crooning. A pitiful bongo appears every once in awhile, but it is absolutely buried in the mix. At least Santana could still play the guitar. But his sound has been completely neutered on here too. How much coke were all of these musicians on to make this stuff. (Oh, and one of my favorite drummers of all time, Chester Thompson, who played with the Roxy era Mothers Of Invention, is relegated to playing second fiddle to a drum machine on here which is the ultimate insult.)

RTB, I don't know what you'll think about that Gentle Giant record, but give it a spin. It's perplexing to myself why I even like it.

This is one of the few albums from the list that I have heard before but in my pre-rating days. Full disclosure here, it's not just an album I've heard before but one of my old favourites that I bought on tape when it was first released. About fifteen to twenty years ago me and a few friends all compiled and compared a 100 favourite albums list each and this album was on mine. But it's been a while since I've heard it in full and I appreciate the opportunity to fine tune it's ranking in my charts. This is such a fun album full of catchy earworms. The proof is that even though it's been so long I found myself singing along to nearly every word in every song. The variety of styles displayed is impressive, and the lyrics range from clever to absurdist, but are always interesting. It may have a 19 song tracklist but some of the songs are short and the time just flies by. Lastly I want to mention that as a father of three adult children They Might Be Giants were just as good as The Wiggles to play to young children. All three of them, despite now having different tastes to each other, loved TMBG when they were young, and unlike The Wiggles they were even more enjoyable for the parents to listen to. I give it a high 8.5/10, although it does drop a couple of spots on my 1990 chart from 9 to 11/63, but in a quirk of chart making it rises from 88 to 72 in my decade chart.
I am interested to hear the John Martyn album Rocka.

Mogwai - As the Love Continues
A typical atmospheric/hypnotic Mogwai album. Nothing surprising or exciting, but enjoyable nonetheless, despite a couple of things I didn't like. At times -admittedly it was sporadic,there were parts it was ok - I felt the rhythm section was somewhat annoying. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I think this had more to do with the production than the instrumentation. Also, the electronic aspects were rather forgettable, not to mention they gave me the impression of going againist the overall direction of the album. The vocals -not that there were many of them - were essentially a non-factor, neither distracting nor adding anything in particular.

I think I finally understand why some people detest Phish. I love Phish and their silliness, but... now I get it. hehe. This wasn't a good listen for me. Hard to get into for me. But I can appreciate in a parallel universe.

Sorry for the delay, had to do some important stuff which I will mention during March on my diary. Plus I did relisten an album and gave that a 100. That was Discovery. As well as thinking of giving another album a 100. But back to this. Compared to the last album this had the rural/southern hospitality vibe with a more fleshed out musical composition. To the point where after being a bit busy, I didn't realized that this came from an act from Canada. This is where I make an ass out of me and you or assumed. If there was anything that holds this back, it would be how this album doesn't get me excited or invested all the way through. For modern country examples, I could point to Aimee Mann's 2000 album or Kacey Musgraves Golden Hour. But still a welcoming listen. Grade:90

I really enjoyed There Existed An Addiction To Blood (a 3.5 for me), because in addition to the obvious skill of the artists, it represented a strand of horrorcore that felt more palatable to my tastes than others. I am not a fan of horror movies or of gore, which are both clear limitations in fully appreciating the genre. On the downside, their 2019 effort could have been tighter and more hard-hitting if tracks like Piano Burning were relegated to a follow-up extras release. Visions Of Bodies Being Burned fixes that issue, resulting in a more focused and filler-free experience. Their 2020 effort also seems to be a more intense and gruesome album. In that way, it is again better than its predecessor at accomplishing what it sets out to do, and in actualizing the potential of its genre. However, this success actually makes the record more aesthetically repelling to me and diminishes my personal enjoyment (which essentially forms the entire basis of my ratings/rankings). Graphic descriptions of cannibalism and the like are simply not what I like to listen to. There are a number of songs with more listenable lyrics, I do love the production, and I also get some enjoyment simply from appreciating the talent on this album, but overall I'll have to give this one a high 3/5.

Man I want to like this way more than I do. This is a pretty good hell at points is pretty great hip hop album. I would say the last third is when this was getting really good. Especially tracks like Breakadawn or the track with Maceo Parker. There were other songs that shocked me a bit like Long Island Wildin. This might be a bit of a stretch but the way the Japanese performers flowed and the cadance are eerily similar to the Japanese commercial for Link To The Past. But compared to other hip hop albums, this doesn't keep me as invested for the whole time. Feel like other hip hop albums like Midnight Marauders or Reachin or Doogystyle were more texturely compelling or Del's album had more interesting flows. Thankfully it didn't stay in the tone of the first main track because if it did, I would have been more bored. Grade:80 but more of a strong 7 to light 8.
