So apparently this group consisted of two German session musicians that were on this terrible Metal Enterprises label that produced some other TRASH as well.
I don't think I should give much away, because I'd prefer others to be as shocked as I was when I heard the first vocals come in. The vocals are definitely the star of the show here.
The most incredible thing about this album is that it somehow manages to actually sound like normal music every once in awhile, which keeps it from being near the bottom of the worst things I've ever heard.
And that album cover is absolutely S Tier garbage.

I had not heard of them before but apparently they are thought of as one of the earliest heavy metal bands. I loved the theatricality and commitment, especially in the opening track, and I do like an epic opener. I loved the guitar solo in Chicago Lives and there were some great riffs and solos throughout, but it was the proto-grunge sounding Woman Tamer that was the highlight for me. Made my smile and nod my head in appreciation. After that track I was excited to hear what would come next, the variety so far had been appealing, and I wasn't disappointed. A good fun listen, not just a curio. 8/10

I LOVE that Sir Lord Baltimore LP so supper happy u liked it too . Yes! It's got incredible variety. BETTER (That's right!) then the more critically acclaimed debut!!!!

Listening to this in full is a mammoth undertaking at 2.5 hours, but only 44 minutes are new to me: the second half of the decade, forming the first part of the record. While the response to these releases (at least on RYM) was tepid, I find them all good to great. A couple of the more ambient songs definitely feel underdeveloped, but overall the 2016-2019 releases are fairly strong. I had already heard all of the other EPs, and all but Truant / Rough Sleeper at least twice. My ratings for those coming in to this listen are a 3.5 for Kindred, a 4 for Street Halo and Truant / Rough Sleeper, and a 4.5 for Rival Dealer. Because the track listing on this compilation is slightly scrambled and not chronological, it wouldn't be fair to change any of those ratings based on this listen. The compilation flows well and feels a bit shorter than it actually is. I find myself with a greater appreciation for Burial's work, which I already held in very high esteem. So overall, I'd say this is a bit greater than the sum of its parts and deserves a high 4/5. Essential future garage.

Hammerheart by Bathory
Yeah this hit the spot. Accessible is right, but this is some amazing musicianship. At times this reminded me of the best parts of Rammstein, arguably one of the most accessible current metal bands. I had never heard of Bathory before this album, so I'm currently delving into their catalog which seems to include a lot of great albums from the 80s. Unfortunately though, I think I like Hammerheart better than their earlier black metal output. Hammerheart is apparently "viking metal" which doesn't really mean much to me since I think the "viking" distinction has more to do with the lyrical content than the musical style. This seems to have paved the way for other Scandinavian metal acts like Emperor and Burzum, both of whom I enjoy to some degree.
I'm definitely looking forward to checking out Blood Fire Death, which seems to be Bathory's album most stylistically similar to Hammerheart. Oh and the picture of lead singer Quothorn on the band's Wikipedia page is one of the most metal things I've ever seen:

In Ferneaux by Blanck Mass
2 huge 20 minute pieces. Not what I was expecting, certainly not what I was hoping for, but I'll take it. A big fan of both Fuck Buttons and Blanck Mass and while this is not close to the best work Benjamin John Power has done (in fact it might be the worst of the 4-5 albums I've heard), it still rocks. Figuratively. It's some sort of a field recordings/electronic journey with a lot of ambient parts, great tribal breaks here and there, the ever present (post) industrial influence and, of course, it's experimental, outlandish and beautiful. I did like it significantly less than World Eater (haven't heard his other efforts under Blanck Mass moniker), so understand where Chief is coming from. A nice 7.5/10
