ALSO, what did you guys think of my Top Ten-ish Metal Albums from 1984!
It's pretty much identical to mine at the moment 😁 Right now my top albums from that year would be, in no particular order: Ride the Lightning, Powerslave, Don't Break The Oath, Morbid Tales, Psalm 9, King of the Dead, Bathory, Haunting the Chapel, Saint Vitus, Detaching From Satan. Grace Under Pressure too if you consider it metal enough, it's a highly underrated Rush release imo. I've got a lot of stuff to listen to in 83' and 84' (and generally you, Merc and Gowi are much more informed when it comes to metal releases until at least 87' or 88'), and I STILL plan on doing those 2 top 10s, but it's a lot of work, ngl.

On Repo's nudging (by recommending to LedZep), I went ahead and listened once to that classic Christian Death album. I liked it. Generally not a fan of Goth rock or metal or whatever that sort of dark aesthetic is, nor of the punk variants is the Post-Punk somber variety my 1st through 10th choice. Still, I liked this album, very creative and ugly in some cool ways.
Also, love that you 3 spontaneously had a lively Manilla Road conversation! It warmed my heart to read. However, I have nothing to add. _________________ -Ryan
As we go into 1984 my heart beats happily and excitedly. The main genres I am focusing on are:
Thrash Metal (OR heavy metal albums or speed metal albums BORDERING on early thrash)
Hardcore Punk (Mostly Japanese Hardcore and some still extant hardcore in the US, with a good amount of early Post-Hardcore)
Noise Rock (in the vein of Butthole Surfers, etc. Just abrasive, ugly noise rock)
Particular fascination with the gnarlier, nastier, proto Black Metal and Proto-Grindcore releases that existed in 1984 or 1983 etc)
I will also be dipping into any SUPER CLASSIC, CAN'T MISS Heavy Metal albums even though they aren't really the focus of this project. You in the know can guess what the 5 or 6 metal albums in 1984 that are so classic I just want to explore them without going too deep down certain metal and sub-genre rabbit holes.
I also have some Power Electronics slated to be listened to, even 1 and so far only one album labeled "Glam Metal" that I want to give a chance to win me over lol. There may be a project here or there that fall outside of even these basic criteria as well. Basically I want to explore really extreme (both generally and for 1984) metal/punk/noise rock and anything excellent, experimental+Abrasive and rooted in basically upsetting and scaring people away in one way or another.
WITH ALL THAT SAID, my list is now fully ordered chronologically as well as I can based off the data I have. And I wanted to see if any of you had some recommendations that fall in line with those categories that maybe I missed or overlooked? Feel free to mention super obvious albums, because you never know, I may be on the fence about checking them out. (I really don't mind if you say, "For sure I think you should give a listen or a new listen to Double Nickels On The Dime, Zen Arcade and Powerslave!" for example.)
Sometimes an album or EP just doesn't jump out to me and I am confronted with literally 100 hardcore Punk albums or EPs and I just end up picking the most revered and highest rated and most popular or most appealing and leaving 75 of those records behind.
