These were my two choices for 2012:

First an album I already own/know:

Bloom by Beach House
Not everything by Beach House is my cup of tea, sometimes their songs can drag a bit. But overall this is one of their finest and tracks like Myth and Wishes are very good. Overall not my favorite band but some of their albums are ok like this one and it goes from the 43rd to the 38th rank of the year.

Then an album on my wishlist:

Stalingrad (Brothers In Death) by Accept
Accept is for me not the quintessential metal band. Like with Blood Of The Nations, this album is a very mixed bag where the 4 first tracks are absolute killers: they are played at a relentless speed and overall they rock like hell. But in most of the rest of the album they go back to their main flaws: sloganesque singing/shouting choruses with musically nothing interesting remaining. I'm really not interested in hearing them shout Join The Revolution or Together We Stand or It's Us agains the World hundreds of times. In the latter part only The Quick And The Dead was good.
But that first part is just too great to ignore this album so it comes in at the 32nd rank.

These are two album of 2013 I listened to:

First an album I already know/own:

Sunbather by Deafheaven
Black Metal, noiserock and shoegaze all at the same time. The longer tracks are very good and create this weird mesmerizing atmosphere. The shorter tracks are there to create atmosphere and sometimes it works but the tracks in itself are not really good so this album just remains at the 54th rank although it is still a must-listen album.

Then an album on my wishlist:

Calendar Days by Dick Diver
My second album I listened to recently of this band with in most of the tracks endearing clumsy jangle rock except for the twin track Boys and The Two Year Lease which are just clumsy pointless tracks. So all in all good for the 46th rank on my year chart.

After The End by Merchandise
A good album further enhanced by two very good tracks: Enemy and True Monument. It goes from the 45th to the 46th rank.

An album on my wishlist:

Zentropy by Frankie Cosmos
This music sounds very innocent but still has something special which would continue also after this first album and enters at the 31st rank.

Carrie & Lowell by Sufjan Stevens
I think this is only the third I listen to this album and my loss because this is a thoroughly beautiful piece of work about the death of his mother (and stepfather). It makes me think a bit of Elliott Smith but of course Sufjan Stevens does what he does himself. Fourth of July is the best track and it goes from the 41st to the 18th rank.

an album on my wishlist:

Stuff Like That There by Yo La Tengo
The reason I chose this album was Awhileaway, one of the two new tracks on this album (the others are covers and remakes of tracks from earlier albums). This was one of the songs I didn't know that they played on a concert I saw of them a week of them. That concert was divided in two clear parts: a soft part in which this track appeared and a much harder part where they let loose all their feedback guitar horses on long jams like on I Heard You Looking. It was a fantastic concert in which even a member of the Big Dipper (another band I need to discover) performed with them in the encores. Most of the setlist came from their newest album but that didn't matter because it's their best in years. But back to this album: I still think they're better when they are doing their own new songs but I must admit their version of Friday I'm In Love really sounds great. An OK album landing at the 38th rank.

Blind Spot by Lush
Maybe this EP shouldn't even be here because it counts only 4 tracks so maybe not a proper album; but however it contains all the good thing about Lush and rises from the 25th to the 16th rank of the year.

An album on my wishlist:

Before A Million Universes by Big Ups
Their first album was great but this second one is a bit less of my liking. It's still very much postpunk but the individual tracks don't do me so much. It's still an OK album though and good for the 55th rank of my year chart.

Feed The Rats by Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs
I you call yourself seven times pigs and your album Feed The Rats, there must be something dirty about your album and indeed there is but in a good way. This is a fine marriage between stoner rock and metal and the album contains two long tracks (of which one ok and one good) and a shorter one. All in all an album that deserves to be listened to whatever the title of the album and it rises from the 64th to the 57th rank.

An album on my wishlist:

V by The Bronx
I already knew one album from this band but this one is better. It's perfect very energetic but melodic hardcore with a few real highlights like the opening track, Fill The Tanks and Two Birds. This is an unexpected discovery and lands at the 17th rank of the year.

Do You Know Enough? by Moaning Lisa
Very good and diverse mini-album. I like it and it moves from the 50th to the 44th rank in my year list.

Then an album on my wishlist:

Dissolution by The Pineapple Thief
This is a nice and well-played album but all-in-all not captivating enough to be in my year chart of 2018. The best example of this the long and (fairly) epic White Mist which has different parts, and not very different from what Pink Floyd or more recently Porcupine Tree did, but on their worst albums and not on their best.

And here we go with another round with the special name of round 12. To give it a little twist I have tried to chose albums I already know/own of which I have at least one track I didn't listen to in a very long time.

And I'll start this round with 1969 and first an album I already own (originally on CD):

In The Court Of The Crimson King by King Crimson
And of course the track I haven't heard in a very long time is the indeed very bad and complete a-musical Moonchild and especially the including The Dream/The Illusion) (last heard somewhere before 2010) which is also the longest track of the album. Strange to see a non-song on an album which is generally viewed as a classic. But of course the title track is a classic and apart from the afore-mentioned there is a sense of unity in the album. For me all in all this is a fine album but not a classic and it goes from the 41st to the 21st rank.

An album on wishlist (listened to on Youtube):

Supersnazz by The Flamin' Groovies
To many this album is viewed as very original but to me this is fairly classic sixties R&B stuff; but I suppose it sounds so familiar because lots of tracks here also exist in other versions. But does end up at the 27th rank of the year because it's certainly groovy.

I'm skipping a few years and immediately go to 1973:

An album I already own and which contains at least one track I haven't heard in a very long time:

Marjory Razorblade by Kevin Coyne
And that track is Heaven In My View I last on 13 May 2012, an OK track but not the best of the album. I know this album already for a long time but in fact, it's the only one I really appreciate of Kevin Coyne. He has a very DIY and even clumsy way of delivering his music and I have the idea it only works on this album but I might be wrong cause I certainly didn't listen to all of his albums. And also, this is a double album which inevitably also means for an artist like Kevin Coyne that also half of the tracks here are good. But boy I love these good tracks like Marlene, which is perhaps his only song that comes close to being a hit and rightly so. Maybe apart from Eastbourne Ladies which is also good. But then you have those well clumsy tracks like Nasty, House On The Hill, Jackie And Ednie or Everybody Says, you will only like if you have heard these long enough.
But a very good album overall which many people would call in earlier times a classic but these times nobody would anymore. For me it rises from the 29th to the 20th rank.

An album on my wishlist:

Tyranny And Mutation by Blue Öyster Cult
I'm only a lukewarm lover of this band and also this album hits the right stop on only a few of the tracks (The Red And The Black, Hot Rails To Hell), but it's just enjoyable enough to put it in my chart at the 37th rank.

And skipping another year and here only an album of my wishlist:


Procol's Ninth by Procol Harum
This is certainly not a Beethoven and one of the worst albums from this otherwise very good band who weren't afraid to show their classic influences; not so good except for one of their absolute classics: Pandora's Box, which again has that signature classical sound accompanied by the distinct voice of Gary Brooker. Apart from this there are some ok tracks like the cover of Eight Days A Week, but otherwise the band doesn't very inspired any more. Just good for the 34th rank of the year.
