Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.7/100, a mean average of 77.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.7.

There is a 10th Anniversary Remix/Remaster version. I highly recommend this version, sounds much better and refined. The album of course is outstanding and a masterpiece.

Incrível! O peso atmosférico de aflição e terror permeado por belas melodias é sensacional.
One of the most horryfingly beautiful albums I know of. Devastating.
When I first pressed play on this album I was shocked by what I was hearing as I just wasn't expecting it. Crashing guitars and wailing vocals start the opening track off in style which is one of the best songs on the album. Then I get to the second song and everything is different, the guitars are slow and it sounds more like shoegaze. The album then repeats this pattern right up to the closing track which makes for one of the most unique track layouts I have seen. I just love the way they have laid the tracks out even if it does make the album feel a little disjointed at times. Its like they wanted to give you a rest before they completely overpower you again and again and perform a 10 minute masterclass. All these heavy tracks are amazing and really do carry the album but the slower side also has some gems as well. However, I do think the slower tracks could be cut down and if the record was cut down to more around the 40 minute mark it would definitely retain the listeners attention better. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this album and it is worth a listen just for its uniqueness.
I am NOT into metal, but I heard this had heavy shoegaze influence and great reviews so I knew I had to give it a listen. And am I glad I did. There are some elements of metal, mostly the drums and vocals, but I feel they mix well with the dreamy guitars. The vocals are even drowned out showing even more My Bloody Valentine influence. I can see why some metal heads don't consider it metal, but what exactly would you call it then? It's not exactly shoegaze either, even if that was a genre that was still alive and well. It's both at once, and it does that very well. Refreshing to hear these old sounds I love cropping back up, and hearing them combined with these blasting drums is really cool. It works. The opener and closer are the strong points for me, but the interludes do feel kind of unnecessary and are still lengthy enough that I'd skip them. The other lengthier tracks are also really strong. It's a shame that this really was the band's best work I'm not big on their releases that came after.
This sounds like nothing I've heard before. A truly unique experience. Loving it.
9/10

Sunbather is a finely crafted table. Dream House, Vertigo and The Pecan Tree function as legs that hold the album up (with Dream House comprised of two legs). The title track is the support apparatus underneath the middle of the table. Windows, Irresistible and Please Remember are various flavors of cuisine on the table which cater to every listener’s preference. All in all, a well-rounded, rewarding listen.

I remember when this came out and everybody was freaking out about it. Now I know why, what a great experience from beginning to end
Love it.
