They say its just MBV+Godspeed+blastbeats but that sounds pretty great to me

They fill a gap. You hit the nail on the head there; that’s exactly how I feel about this album: though I’ve never heard this combination of genres, I’ve heard every part of it. I love the drums. One thing I’ve always appreciated the hell out of metal is that they are one of few genres that play with rhythm (sometimes I think a lot of people forget that rhythm is an aspect to music at all). The guitars on this project don’t really follow this trend though (they don’t even have a hint of swing to it), which is really a missed opportunity and makes me question their validity as shoegazing. I like that they put the vocals in the background with the rest of the music, not because “muhhh screamo is dumb”, but because they seem to realize that vocals are as important to music as any part.

It tends to get a bit repetitive and the sound gets old fast over the course of the album. And it’s not a bad thing they decided not to switch up the sound, but it kinda proves this sound doesn’t have the replayability to fill an album, rather an EP (which is still better than most artists do, es-fucking-specially in rock these days).

Vertigo! Dream House! Tracks that gives me goosebums. Music I have longed for all my life, without knowing it. Black metal caring for music more than style. The massive soundwall of Kamasi Washington and the free floating beautiful melodies of Radiohead or maybe rather Sigur Ros. Deafheaven fills a gap. Hope for many intelligent musicmakers to get salvation & creational urge hearing this

I am not really a fan of metal, but I do like shoegaze a lot. I think Deafheaven will really get me into blackgaze.

Its a real grower. The screamo vocals are a tough sell, but the music makes you want to keep coming back to it. And there is something about the soaring synths mixed with the fast paced drums and those screams that just makes the whole experience so refreshing and alive. A one of a kind album.

if Loveless and Jane Doe had a baby, it would be this album.

Ya, so after many listens, I can tell newcomers to the album and/or genre that you just have to keep listening to it. Eventually the vocals will pass from unbearable all the way to good and even great. And the album as a whole just keeps getting better. Stick with it!

Masterpiece , not just a Black Metal masterpiece it’s a masterpiece period. I’m not a metal fan at all but I love this album from beginning to end. This album is what the world ending sounds like, this album is incredible. If you’re a music fan Sunbather is a MUST listen
