Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 65.2/100, a mean average of 62.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 62.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.9.

Certainly not their best by any means but there are some decent tracks like Pandora’s box. Overall, it’s okay

Procol's Ninth is, perhaps, the groups worst album. Half of the tracks here are good, while the other half are either bland or (by Procol Harum standards) bad. The only album that really rivals it is the groups 11th studio album, The Well's on Fire, which has less good songs, but has one amazing song that is better than all of the tracks on this album and one awful song worse than any of the tracks on this album. Overall, I think that may be worse, but not by very much.

The good tracks here are "Piper's Tune" "Without a Doubt", "Taking the Time", "Pandora's Box" (My favourite) and "The Final Thrust". "Eight Days a Week" is a cover of a bland Beatles song, the lyrics are really not good (as woth many of the Beatles more poppy tunes) and, while Harum's version is slightly better, this is still a conteder for the worst song on the record (don't cover a song unless your going to do something interesting with it. The worst origional song is "I Keep Forgetting", a nice enough tune with abysmal lyrics. The other three tracks are not worth mentioning.
