is the sound I love. HEAVY as fuck with a wall of sound, spaced out, rhythmic drumming. LOVE this! Just sooooo POWERFUL!!!
Clearly this isn't classic grindcore since it doesn't have that pummeling & shocking blast-beat, right Merc?!

Hell yeah! The pace of the blast beats and the shrieked vocals and the hardcore punk turned to 11 or 12 is what I think of as “pure” Grindcore. That song is fantastic and indeed is like a Swans sludge Metal track. Could see it fitting on Godflesh’s Streetcleaner or Swans’ Filth almost. Fucking fantastic.
And yeah just listened to Scum again and I feel I wasn’t giving it enough credit for it’s variety. There are slower and more brooding bits there. Classic as hell. But I feel they came into their own with the Peel Sessions and their second LP. _________________ -Ryan

The second side has worse production and less highlights, but it's understandably a classic as well, given the context. Two great early '80s English tastes – VENOM & DISCHARGE – combined into one unholy concoction. It turns out Bathory were not the only ones tilling the fertile First Wave Of Black Metal (FWOBM) fields that Venom had sown. After starting out in the English Hardcore scene, and thus heavily influenced by Discharge, Onslaught pivoted to a more metallic sound for their debut LP Power From Hell. Not surprisingly given their origins, their lyrics are very Crust Punk in style.
It's brutish & primal. A caveman pounding on the drums. Instruments bleeding together as sheets of nails spray from a gun. And, as the world burns all around us, it's a fitting soundscape to this apocalypse we ourselves have created.

If you're a fan of early Venom, this is a no-brainer. It's hella underrated!
Iron Maiden changed on us. 🤬 >They used to be our drinking buddies. We'd buy each other rounds at the little dives just down da block. Dollar beers mostly. Whatever was on special that night. But they got famous. Became "important". Started traveling the world and reading weird books. They weren't quite the punters we grew up with anymore. No. They were "adults." We'd still nod when we'd pass each other on the street, BUT they weren't ours anymore. They were everybody's and nobody's at the same goddamn time. If you know what I mean.
And that's exactly where Savage Grace come in. Now THIS was a band that we could hang with. They knew exactly what we wanted. Which was MORE < much MORE! 😈 > early '80s Maiden. More 22 Acacia Avenue They'd never leave us! < Wait. Would they?! 🤔🤔🤔 Nah! Just look at that album cover. These guys are HOPELESS dopes. lol This band will be ours FOREVER < 😈 !!!>
The Verdict I don't blame them. I even admire them. Iron Maiden had the talent and vision to evolve & grow and with Piece Of Mind and Powerslave, they did just that. BUT, if you missed that visceral raw thrill from those early days of Maiden, Savage Grace's debut LP Master of Disguise delivers.

Let me know what you think! There's a bit of a speed metal influence and the singer sounds a tad Dio-ish, but I'd say AT LEAST 80 % of their DNA is that early Maiden b4 Piece Of Mind.
