These are both very nice songs. Can't say I wholeheartedly love either, but both are new to me and I'm glad they're in the tournament. The vote probably goes to Mason Ramsey. _________________ Overall chart Fake overall chart
Dude how have I never heard of Meaningful Stone? This music was made for me. One of the best songs I've heard in 2024 right off the bat. Voting for Supernova! _________________ Griselda, by Fashion Rebels 2020's Hip-Hop 2020's Country
ok so clearly I'm out of the loop because last I heard Mason Ramsey was a 12 year old who went viral yodeling in walmart. That was a really lovely slice of just classic Nashville balladering, reminiscent of Skeeter Davis' End of the World a bit (high praise). Silly me for assuming this was a meme nomination, this kid's genuinely really talented.
But damn Supernova is also really lovely, trip-hop percussion underlaying a sort of dream pop that feels really purely emblematic of the genre. I tend to sneer at people who compare every new dream pop act to Cocteau Twins... buuuuut there's definitely some serious common ground here and I mean that in the best way. The boundaries between dream pop and shoegaze can get a little blurry often, and I like how about 2 minutes in another layer of guitars gets thrown in pushing the track more into shoegazey territory, it's fun and dynamic in a way that not a lot of dream pop or shoegaze necessarily is. Gotta listen to this album.
I honestly don't know how to vote here, these were both really pleasant surprises (and oddly enough evoke similar emotions for me)
gonna have to think and come back to this one _________________ A Variety of Artists
Supernova is another great track that has clicked first listen and sold me on listening to more from Meaningful Stone. The vocals and guitars are so beautiful, and they blend together perfectly.
Once again, sticking with my pick. Someone needed to make Nashville sound revival happen and do it right, and who better than Mason Ramsey? I wasn't expecting this level of musical growth from him either. A gorgeous tune, and he nails the vocals with the perfect amount of restraint. Thanks for the shout out to Skeeter Davis, KitchenSink. I love that song/album, and for everyone reading, if you like Blue Over You, you should check it out as well:

I guess I'll go with the Really Pretty Airy Korean Track even if I can't tell much difference between it and the other 1000 Really Pretty Airy Korean Tracks that have been hyped up this decade.
