This soundtrack has one of the most unique music II've ever heard!!
Listen to it here: https://downloads.khinsider.com/game-so...derforce-3
It's one of FM-Synthsized music's highlights in the late 80s era which had an older/a tiny bit primitive electronic sound, so that early years FM Synthesis sound here might not be for everyone, but alongside the prominent use of counter-melodies and pitched 80s electronic drums sound all under pretty fast tempos, II think you will know what II mean by this music being unique, and perhaps you will have a nice fun listen.
This is probably the last soundtrack 大谷智巳 [Tomomi Otani] has ever composed for. Otani-san composed for Technosoft while he was still a late-adolescent/young-adult college student, but he quit composing video-game music as it wasn't paying much.
He composed the opening (along with Naosuke Arai), stage selection, all boss music except the first boss, and stages 6&7.
"His behavior inspired us with distrust (Stage6)" and "Hunger made them desperate (Stage7)" are probably of his highest peaks in his career! There's emotion, natural flow and many variations of melodies in a range of one or two octaves in both of them, and their titles are long, yet individually conveying emotions as Otani-san has done previously with other video-game tracks. Surprisingly enough (or not as enough as one could've guessed), he hasn't given much deep thoughts to them, but it's very cool what you can take from these kind of titles, so II'm glad he wrote them!
His boss music is very fast-tempoed, hence, very very intense (probably his most intense work), and are all in C# Minor (nocturnal & vampirical feelings) or F# Minor (sunset & longiness feelings) keys.
This is also probably the first soundtrack 山西利治 [Toshiharu Yamanishi] has ever composed for. He composed for stages 1-5, two ending tracks, and three very short tracks.
He was probably directed to compose in a similar style to Otani-san's, in order to make all the tracks sound consistent, and II believe Yamanishi-san has done a very good job at it. From observing some of his music over the years, he has always been good at composing in styles of several music: such as Metal, RPG music, relaxing music etc.
He was only 18/19 years-old when he composed these tracks!:
Stage 1 changing its melody from one to another is done excellently and is a very iconic track! II haven't ever heard something similar to it!
Stage 2 is really cool-sounding (more like "hot-sounding" since it's a fire planet stage). It is in C Minor (a nice key), has nice melodies and its most unique feature is the tempo slightly changing a few times, which felt to me glitchy a bit when II first noticed it, but it maximizes the intense feeling of changing emotions, which is also unique.
Stage 3 is another insanely unique track! It has a very-cute-sounding main instrument which convincingly tries to adjust to this watery planet stage, but is played with a very fast drumming, hence, creating a complementary contrast of cuteness and intensity. Have you understood so far what II've meant by this soundtrack being unique?!
Stage 4 has one of the most shocking music moments II've ever heard! So II don't want to spoil you by explaining it with this invisible text ahead: It starts sounding menacingly intriguing, but then it switches to a looping melody in D Minor which makes you skyrocket by your jaw dropping to the floor and from there it keeps extending so it sends the rest of your body higher and higher. It's like crawling at Mach speed inside an inch-long cave not knowing when you will come out, until suddenly you do and daylight washes over your face as you begin to cherish the outside world more than ever! The first ending track is a very nice and emotional high-note and D Minor short piece (even its arranged track on the 1990 soundtrack album sounds captivatingly nice, and there's even a 2014 orchestral version which sounds beautiful), and the second ending track is an easygoing D Major piece with nice melodies.
One of the best video-game soundtracks of all time? Definitely for me.
II've been listening to this soundtrack since a very long time ago and it has always sounded great to me, never got old and is one of others II have a strong personal affinity for.
II probably like this soundtrack as much as Thunder Force V's soundtrack or even a bit more.
I am listening to The Thorn Birds (Original Television Soundtrack / Deluxe Encore Edition).

"Meggie's Theme" has always been one of my favorite instrumental songs of all-time. Now I'm listening to the entire Deluxe Edition of the Soundtrack album.

II didn't take into account that writing essays about each soundtrack would take me this long, and since II only wrote a long introduction paragraph for the soundtrack mentioned below, II'm going to post these with short synopses from now on, or no synopses at all, and will re-edit the posts when II have a complete essay.
This soundtrack is a masterpiece of melodic progressive electronic music with some trance and a bit of metal influences. Which makes me think Hyakutaro Tsukumo pioneered the trance metal genre Tiny spoilers: Listen to the bosses' music for the trance metal (and the music of stage 6 and its two bosses feel more close to symphonic metal!).
Considering how Thunder Force 3 & 4 are known for their gameplay and their soundtrack and Tsukumo-san had somewhat to live up for for the sake of this shoot 'em up video game franchise after Toshiharu Yamanishi left Technosoft, Tsukumo has definitely fulfilled this task!
Again, TF5's soundtrack is pretty unique, as close as TF3's soundtrack! Several tracks from TF5 are quite iconic and are some of Tsukumo's finest compositions.
One of the best video game soundtracks ever.
I mean, really any of the three LOTR soundtracks, but Return of the King especially. Howard Shore was just inspired on an other-worldly level putting the music together for the whole trilogy and it's such a special series of films to me that just listening to the soundtrack can get me emotional.
Annie Lennox's performance is incredible and it's such a beautiful song about being at peace with death. 100% guaranteed to get me misty-eyed every single time I listen to it. _________________ Progressive Rock
A very nice soundtrack which blends Japanese folk music with various genres, mainly progressive rock.
And even with the FM synthesis sound quality of the Sega Genesis chip, it sounds really interesting!
You're welcome. Thank you for making this thread! It feels great to share many soundtracks, since II've listened to many of them and some are of my all-time favorite music.

One of the greatest visual novel soundtracks II've ever listened to.
The story's setting takes place in a calm (before the storm) and quiet village in a mountain range forest in Japan, so the music features reverberated melodies played on a piano, classical guitar, shakuhachi and other soothing instruments widely used in lounge music and/or in Japanese folk music.
Warning: The first track has a character who speaks very quickly and loudly! Since the soundtrack has never been released officially, except you could insert the game's CD into a CD audio player (Discs like this are called redbook audio game discs), and that track features a dialogue you should insert the game's CD in order to play the game. So you should probably skip it if you want to, and then you'll listen to some very beautiful music!
