Robert Christgau also hates metal and his opinions about metal albums shouldn't be taken seriously.

Mind Movie wrote: | A favorite of mine - I have considered replacing their debut album with this in my chart. I love the overall warm feel and enjoyable uptempo music (I like how you can make a song called World of Pain sound happy). Tales of Brave Ulysses is definitely my favorite on here, with its bizarre lyrics and Eric Clapton amazing and innovative guitar work - one of the first songs to use a wah-wah pedal which later became a well integrated part of psychedelic- and hard rock. |
The Beatles used wah-wah pedal on Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band which was recorded before Cream recorded Disraeli Gears.
Just sayin.

Especially when you consider Robert Christgau is turning 70 in April.

This might be going off-topic, but how respected is Christgau? I know he's considered to be the Roger Ebert of music, but his reviews, in my opinion, never really explain why an album's good. Plus, he's biased against prog rock, metal, and probably some other stuff.

IMO it's the "respected" ones that are often the worst ones.
After a long time in the business of being a critic, eventually one becomes corrupted for there are potentially millions of dollars at stake depending on what a famous and "respected" critic says about an album, movie, book, etc.
