For me. Digital only means nothing to me. If you were really into cars...would you be happy just owning pictures and taking test drives at the dealership? Or do you want that car in your garage where you can wash it and drive it and sit in it whenever you want to?

For me. I just don't get how people can love albums and not actually own any.

That's quite a hot take. Books would be a better analogy. I'm quite sure I'm capable of loving an album without owning it though lol.

Sorry to hear about the stolen records, that's tragic. D :

Yeah that's a good point. I can't image being in a forever home anytime in the foreseeable future. I'd say there are only like 60 - 70 I'd really want to own physically but then who knows, maybe I'd get addicted.

Fair, my tastes are too basic for that to be an issue yet.

Does anyone know where the melody for this song comes from at around 40 seconds? I know I've heard it somewhere else and its bothering me so much.

People who own/collect records? Do you regret it? I don't own any physical music but I'm tempted to buy a record player and a few of my fav albums. It seems addictive and expensive and like it will take up a lot of space! But also fun!

Never regretted it for a moment.

Between us, my wife and I own around 7,500 albums either vinyl (around two thirds of the total), the rest being either CD’s or tapes. I had a thing for tapes in the early 80’s. Short lived but I have around 150.

Contrary to a comment earlier in this thread about the inconvenience, I love the ritual of finding the album on the racks, taking it out of the sleeve, placing it on the turntable etc. it gives me a real sense of satisfaction. I don’t generally buy albums on line either. The joy that you get in finding an album you have been looking for for years in the back of a record shop is such a joy.

Space can be an issue but we are in our forever home and are fortunate enough to be able to have a room solely dedicated to music but I realise that is by far the exception.

In my twenties (late 70’s / early 80’s), me and my friends only had the option of physical albums and were regularly moving from one short let to another. We all loved music and the act of moving the albums from one property to the next was a real hassle. All hands on deck.

Not sure whether that answers the question but thought that I’d share from an older persons perspective who grew up with the physical album as our only source of recorded music.

I also, and I’m sure that this will horrify some, don’t own a single download!!!!!

7,500 is insane to me haha, I can't imagine wanting 7,500 hundred anything. Maybe jackets or shoes lol.

Thanks, it is helpful to hear about the experiences of other music lovers. I'm thinking about buying 1 or 2 records without getting a record player and seeing how that goes.

I know. It was never the intention to build a large record collection it’s simply grown organically. It also helps when two music fans come together with not a lot of overlap, my wife has a large collection of French language albums, which was never my thing although now I love artists like serge gainsbourg, Veronique Sanson and Francis lalane. .

Still growing but not anywhere near as quickly as it did when I was working. There’s always something new to discover even if that new thing is 60 years old. Good hunting and welcome to the addiction

Trying to watch as much as I can! NBC's coverage in the US is frustrating though, so I often resort to watching highlights online of sports that I can't watch live (including Skateboarding, Surfing, and Breakdancing which I was looking forward to). Considering how strong the USA is in general at the Olympics, it's a huge shame how piss-poor the exclusive broadcast rights are and how they manage to fail to draw up interest.

Mostly been watching soccer and basketball, the latter of which is just neat as an American to see an NBA all-star team perform so well together.

Generally I don't watch a ton of gymnastics, but I did see the men's pommel horse and that Rhys McClenaghan is quite impressive! I didn't realize he's from Northern Ireland. Do Northern Irish athletes have the option to compete under the Irish or the UK flag? (like Puerto Ricans in the US who often compete under the Puerto Rican flag but sometimes compete under the US flag particularly in team sports).

I have to say that overall, Paris is putting on an amazing show: fencing at the Grand Palais, 3x3 basketball and skateboarding at the Place de la Concorde, equestrian at Versailles, the marathon runs from downtown Paris to Versailles and back, and of course beach volleyball right next to the Eiffel Tower! The spectacle is wonderful, I can't imagine Los Angeles in 2028 putting on anywhere near as good of a show as this. Although I can't help but feel that it might suck to be a Parisian right now with all the road closures and millions of tourists Laughing

Yeah, essentially the Good Friday Agreement means that anyone from Northern Ireland can choose to be an Irish or British citizen, a lot of sports people would complete under the Irish flag as a result, other medalists have also been from the north aswell.

Happens loads in Irish sports, the only real segregation would be in soccer off the top of the head, where there's two separate leagues (even then Derry City would play in the League of Ireland despite being in Northern Ireland, similar story with players like James McClean and Shane Duffy for example, Derry would be an area with strong ties to the republic).

Sports like rugby and GAA would be cross border, with only one rugby team for the whole island. The border's really an antiquated thing at this point.

Been watching the sport climbing earlier today, think it's class, looking forward to seeing how the breaking works out also! Paris does seem to have embraced it fully, every event is swamped with French fans.

Irish TV is quite good for this actually, our main national free to view tv channel is doing about 12/13 hours a day, covering all Irish athletes and then major events and highlights in between, seen nearly every sport on it at this point, also seem to have found an Irish person to commentate on each one which is pretty cool.

Yep, and loving it. Many sports which I’d never paid attention too, suddenly I’m engrossed.

The rowing was great, some superb races and the climbing is mental. How do you scale a vertical wall that quickly! Nuts.

Loving the athletics as well.

You get out of the forums what you put into it. The biggest thread here is the single greatest spot for recs on the site...and almost no one uses it anymore. Almost everyone used to post there. It's still a great resource and still could be a central gathering place on BEA, like it once was. It's minimal effort and endless recs (21,000 plus pages).

Just sayin'.

I’m assuming that you’re referring to the “what album are you playing” forum romanelli. I agree a great source of recs and I’ve started adding more notes about each album that I post on there beyond just the artwork and link. Hoping that generates a bit more discussion about what is being played
