Sing For Very Important People by The Free Design
Chart: Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by NoWaxJim
Rank on User's Chart: 8
Year: 1970
Rank on BEA Overall: 8,505
Average Rating: 76/100
Chart note:
"PICK - Children's Waltz; FIRST HEARD: Friend of a friend on Facebook, oddly enough on the evening of my son's first birthday. Simply put, the most beautiful album I've ever heard in my life. Musical escapism in its purest form - stick this on (especially with your infant child in your arms, bouncing on your knee or happily strapped to the car seat playing with a maraca) and for a moment screw worrying about paying the next bill or that deadline at work - nothing matters. I simply cannot get enough of it - the mix of sunshine pop, folk balladry, sumptuous harmonies and a cover of the Sesame Street theme tune all have a place here. Dust down your Fisher Price record player, give it a spin and let your inner child run innocent and carefree for half an hour."

It's doubly ironic that you've chosen this album to feature today mate - my little lad is currently in hospital with bronchiolitis. I'll dedicate this pick to him - get well soon noWax Jnr.

BTW, sterling work picking up the UPofD mantle - you're doing a fine job, much kudos to you Very Happy

Cheers mate Cool

For anyone interested in taking the plunge with this LP, the best place to start is 'Bubbles' - which Stereolab obviously listened to at some point during their career. The whole darn thing is a beautifully mellow experience - I can't recommend it highly enough, be you a parent or just a big kid with a penchant for Lego and kite flying.

Especially kite flying.

Hope everything is OK with little Jim. I'm sending a French dad's thought his way.

This album was very gentle and dreamy and wonderful! Children's Waltz was definitely the highlight for me. One of those rare beauties. But the whole album is pretty grand. Unadulterated childlike wonder! (pun intended) Just as good as you would expect, I wasn't disappointed at all. Smile

I've only listened to a few singles from these guys before trying this album (I've just started it), but those singles were all so bubbly and a tad bit too cutesy. Hopefully this doesn't follow that trend. I mean, I don't mind bubbly and cutesy music, but the particular singles had a bit too much of that, but the album isn't bad so far.

EDIT: also, hope the best for No wax jr.
