Oh wow, I know nothing about metal, but this sure ain't no "extreme" metal xD I mean, if it is, what is non-extreme metal? Led Zeppelin?
But yeah, it's quite frankly a masterpiece. Slayer is my fave metal band so far, and this record is truly exceptional. Fast, short, furious, powerful, catchy. It bears many similarities with hardcore I think, much more than, say, Metallica. That's probably why I love it so much. I prefer Seasons In The Abyss, personally, but the three album run from this one to Seasons is one of the best ever. I really need to check out other things from this band.

Yes this is where extreme metal began, with thrash. Compare this to power metal, NWOBHM, hair metal, etc of the time - hell compare this to the other thrash of the time and this thing just towers over it all in its speed, loudness and furiousness. Like, thrash was already the most extreme metal that was going at that time with classic albums from Slayer and Metallica and Megadeth and Exodus and overkill etc but THIS album was like a fucking wake up call. No one was this fast and crazy and extreme at this time.
I love it. It's got the absolutely INSANE energy of hardcore and the heaviness and chops of some very skilled metal. The only aspect I don't always love is the vocals at times. Also some of the solos I'm not huge on because they are so abrasive and extreme and devislish. The riffage and drumming is pretty much the greatest I've ever heard. _________________ -Ryan

It is extreme for its time. Fuck, this borders on death metal... in 1986. Yeah, it's great. Incredibly pacey, and angsty ride compressed into such a small package.
Now I shall reign in blood _________________

Yeah, this. I've been recommended this album a bunch of times but I just don't enjoy it. At best, it's alright, but it's just so in your face samesy. Oh well, I wish I enjoyed it, but good on you if you do.

Much better than I thought it would be!
Thank you Goodsir for recommending me this.
It's consistent as a whole, which is nice, but nothing is fantastic.

Heard Christ Illusion a few years ago and didn't like that so i never got around to listening to this
[update]just heard it.Much better than megadeath,as someone that likes hardcore punk this sits well with me.Am not keen in exploring deep in this subgenre of metal as I doubt there would be much variation in the sound pioneered by these classic 80s thrash albums.
