Fear by John Cale
It beat Blue Oyster Cult in the first round, although it was not clear why from the comments. Both records were highly praised. In the second round, the Fear fans redeemed themselves as their favorite cruised by In The Dark by Toots & the Maytals.

Veedon Fleece by Van Morrison
In its first round match, (vs. a Popul Vuh album with an unpronounceable title) the discussion was more about how it ranked in the Van Morrison catalog, as it won easily, and barely paused to eliminate Cecil Taylor's Silent Tongues in round 2.
