This is just a preliminary RFC, see if there's enough interest out there to do it.
The idea is, we take a year (1974) and we do a tournament to see what the best album of that year is.
We'll have a field of 64 albums, including the top 16 BEA ranked, which are the following:
Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
Neil Young - On the Beach
Supertramp - Crime of the Century
King Crimson - Red
Robert Wyatt - Rock Bottom
Queen - Sheer Heart Attack
David Bowie - Diamond Dogs
Joni Mitchell - Court and Spark
Queen - Queen II
Brian Eno - Here Come the Warm Jets
Steely Dan - Pretzel Logic
Big Star - Radio City
Yes - Relayer
Van Morrison - Veedon Fleece
Richard & Linda Thompson - I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight
Tom Waits - The Heart of Saturday Night
Let's say three nominees per person.

Seems a bit pointless to do nominations considering one of the listed albums will most likely win anyways.

Not necessarily. I have heard the overall and yearly charts disparaged on these forums. You never know.
A tournament would (we would hope) get us listening to unfamiliar albums that might beat the familiar ones. This is why I picked 1974 as a test. The highest ranked album is number 240 overall, so it's not THAT popular. 1973, sure, Dark Side of the Moon wins, we all go home. 1974 is not so clear.
