Capital Punishment is brilliant. There's certainly a humor to it "I'm not a player I just fuck a lot." I also remember how my mother looked when some of the skits were playing! Priceless!

Critical Beatdown, easy. Never realized how much they sounded like Public Enemy before.
Capital Punishment is ok, but it's really not my style.
edit: Holy shit! 1988 had to be one of the best years for hip hop!
My 1988 Hip Hop rank at this point...
Essential
1. Public Enemy - It takes a A Nation of Millions
2. EPMD - Strictly Business
3. BDP - By All Means Necessary
4. Eric B & Rakim - Follow The Leader
Solid
4. NWA - Straight Outta Compton
5. Ultamagnetic MCs - Critical Beatdown
6. Eazy E - Eazy duz It

Don't forget The Great Adventures of Slick Rick, Straight Out the Jungle, or Life Is... Too $hort. Not sure it's one of the best years in hip-hop, but there are a handful of classics.
Anyway, tough choice but I'm going with Pun here. It's too long, but it's excellent. Pun is one of the best rappers of all-time and, as much as I love Critical Beatdown (which is probably one of my Top 10 hip-hop records of the 1980s), he gets my vote here. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

No contest again. Ultra mag is a total classic. Long time since I heard that big pun record but remember it was ok. Will check again.
