Took the best songs off Hatful of Hollow and put equally great songs around them. Oh my gosh, I adore The Smiths.

Great compilation, as essential as their s/t. Not on my charts, though, because I don't rank compilations

Pretty sure I played this practically EVERY SINGLE DAY for an entire semester when I was a college sophomore. It's ok I guess. Very Happy

The weaker compilation of the two big Smiths compilations (the other being Hatful of Hollow). I don't quite know what makes the latter click more with me. Sequencing and the editions of the songs might have a lot to do with it. Probably my fourth choice after HoH, the self-titled, and TQID for regular Smiths listening. That doesn't mean it's not fantastic, though.

I disagree with that statement, but they're both incredible. Louder Than Bombs was my introduction to the Smiths a long long time ago, so there's a bit of attachment there too. It may run a bit long but I'd cut nothing

Completely agree. We've actually talked about this before. There's clearly a generation/side of the Atlantic thing going on here. Now that both Hatful of Hollows and Louder Than Bombs are readily available on our shores, I can see Hatful of Hollows now becoming more popular in the US. Hatful of Hollows seems more legitimate (and actually is more "legitimate") since it the UK release for a UK band and that would likely impact me subconsciously if I was exposed to both albums at the same time. But, I wasn't. Laughing

At any rate, it's too late now. I've heard those songs in the sequence presented by Louder Than Bombs a gazillion times over. It's what my brain craves. Very Happy
