The more I delve into Taoism the more it becomes apparent that I need to change the way I personally listen to & consume records. Consuming all that information is just not healthy for optimal chi flow. That incessant craving for more MORE MORE now NOW NOW even when it's in the spirit of fun. As someone who's trying to optimize his lifestyle in order to promote healing, I've been aware of this for months. And, it's crazy because I pride myself on having crazy amounts of will power. Just two months ago, I radically changed my diet - completely & totally cutting out ALL GRAINS, DAIRY, and SOY along with eliminating all processed foods. And, it wasn't hard for me to do this. Like at all. I took it as a challenge and have really enjoyed exploring new foods like organ meats & seaweed. Sure I grow nostalgic for Denny's & taco shops & pizza & other various diners & dives, but whatever. I can do it. Yet, I can't stop gobbling up records. WTF. I need help. I'm a music addict. And "addict" is the appropriate word since I have a strong feeling that it may be impeding me (even if just a little bit) from my goals in life. Namely better health & kicking a disease's ASS.

So, to rectify this lack of will power, I'm outing myself to at least this little musical community that I have grown so fond of over the last year. For now on, I'm limiting myself to only two new albums per week. One from 2015 and one from the past. At the end of the year, I'll still have listened to 52 albums from 2015 which ain't bad. Better than taking the chance that my habit may be impeding my recovery and not even making it to the end of the year.

So, without further adieu, here's my first 2015 album of the week.

Ten Love Songs by Susanne Sundfør

Feel free to post your own! Any album that you want to explore in every detail. Become totally immersed in & live it. I used to do this all the time when albums were not as readily available as they are today, and it can be a lot of fun. Getting all passionate and hyped up about one album to sort of live with for that week. Doing the research. Figuring out what you really, really want. And then living with the result. Sometimes hating it at first. Kicking yourself for choosing such a crummy record. And then all of sudden realizing that you're in love and that you're just a complete idiot who knows nothing. Peace!

What a wonderfully inspiring post!

I actually feel that way a lot. I've listened to over 30 albums so far this year alone. But there are only a handful that I've really immersed myself in.

I def want to do this with you, but are you intending this post to be an outlet for the weekly album you are listening too, or are you encouraging others to post theirs? Because i have to admit, seeing a collection of new albums all mentioned in one post like this might pique my curiosity and kick me off the wagon. I'm not sure i can define my self as one who has strong will power.

Edit:

I see now that you did say "feel free to post" I guess im talking about structure, i dont want to see this thread derailed before it leaves the station.

PS Good Luck with your fight.

Thanks! Very Happy I want to definitely encourage you to post here for two reasons. One, you will making a public commitment for that week which has been shown to be EXTREMELY beneficial in accomplishing & complying with willpower goals. If you fall off the wagon, so what. You just get right back on. No biggie. Second, this can become a repository in a way for the albums people are most excited about and want to explore the most. We could then all use this thread as maybe even the best resource of what album to check out the following week (or just in general).

No strict adherence necessary! Recreational weekers welcome! Laughing

This is the type of album I could see you giving album of the year to. It's so good.

I've yet to really dig all the way into any specific album from 2015, so this may need to be something I take part in. I obviously have a major addiction problem as well.

I tend to immerse myself in a year and spend weeks at a time with records from that year. This week, I've focused on 1978 for the sake of burying everyone in the tourney.

Repo, if you're looking for something from the past to sink your teeth into, may I suggest:

Best Dressed Chicken In Town by Dr. Alimantado

Sour Soul by Ghostface Killah & BADBADNOTGOOD

This would be my 2015 album of the week. Solid project.

Perfect. Very Happy That will be the first one for me. I won't create a second thread for a generalized AOTW unless I feel that their is a demand/need for it. Like to see how this works for 2015 first.

One of your 2015 albums of the week has to be

Transfixiation by A Place To Bury Strangers

It sounds like Pornography era Cure meets the bass driven noise of Lightning Bolt with Closer era Ian Curtis Vocals.

and for an older album I would recommend

Suicide Invoice by Hot Snakes

Which is the band formed by some of the members of Drive Like Jehu after they broke up.

Now I can't wait for next week! Laughing I've always wanted to check out that Hot Snakes album too. Both solidly docked for next Friday!
