- Post subject: Use your illusion I or II?
|
I've had numerous conversations about this so want some more input:
Use your illusion I or II? Which do you prefer?
In terms of flat out rock - I personally prefer I. It's got pace and although there are some fillers in there (You ain't the first/Back of Bitch) as a whole it is excellent. Don't get me wrong I love Use you Illusion II but My World and So Fine just make me want to stick knitting needles in my ears. II (for me) just doesnt flow...and I know that if I or II were combined to make one album its would be great....but then the question is - what songs would feature....I personally cant see something like Estranged (which I love) being on the same album as Right next door to hell (which I also love)...
thoughts?

Is it solipsistic in here or is it just me?

For me it's the first one. Though they both have some major flaws (I'm looking at you "Get In The Ring").
Would've been better as one album:
1. Civil War
2. Yesterdays
3. Live And Let Die
4. Don't Cry
5. Knockin' On Heavens' Door
6. You Could Be Mine
7. Pretty Tied Up
8. November Rain
9. Estranged
10. Garden Of Eden
11. Dead Horse _________________ Progressive Rock

Yeah, Hanoi Rocks are pretty awesome.
I've always intended to make a mix tape of the best songs from Use you Illusion I & II but could never muster the enthusiasm. I'm going to fix that once I get my next '84 team straightened out. There's definitely one good to great album (or at least an EP) in that overwrought mess. LOL>

Like many (most?) people, I'd have preferred they pared them down to one awesome album. But even allowing for their desire to put out this much music in one go, I think II is a far stronger stand-alone album. I could do without half the songs on I, while II only has three weak songs. Still, if I was to make one album from them, it's almost an even split (in no particular order):
Civil War
You Could Be Mine
Knockin' On Heaven's Door
14 Years
Yesterdays
Breakdown
Don't Cry (original)
November Rain
Estranged
You Ain't the First
Garden
Coma

I like II more because there are lot more songs I like from that album. Civil War, 14 Years, Yesterdays, Pretty Tied Up, Estranged, Don't Cry, etc. I only wish they would let My World off the album, it is one of the worst closing songs on an album, ever.

I would personally go with (and in no particular order)
Right next door to hell
Dont cry
Perfect crime
Double Talking Jive
Garden of Eden
Get in the Ring
Don't Damn me
Get in the ring
Pretty Tied up
You could be mine
I'd then probably have an EP with the following:
Coma
November Rain
Estranged
Locomotive
Civil War
