In the earlier matches, we've been taking discogs and allmusic as more reliable than rym or wiki, so I've been using the former to verify the year (both say 68 ). It doesn't seem worth bothering Parks about, though.

'68 is very solid top to bottom. Still was an easy vote for '98. All those albums, no duds. I feel every album in '98 is at least very good and the last 4 are varying degrees of great. "Ocean Songs" is the only album in the round in my top 100, so that helps. And those singles- I'm sorry but any singles team with top notch American Football, Modest Mouse, AND Spiritualized is a sure-fire winner. Looking at that team it is literally about as great as I have seen. Surprised it is losing. _________________ -Ryan
I prefer the '98 team ever so slightly. Both astounding teams, some of the best of the tourney, and honestly if I wasn't such a Spiritualized maniac I'd probably vote '68, but I Think I'm In Love is the best song off LaG and sways me just ever so slightly to '98.

wait, why is Discogs considered reliable when RYM isn't? they have the same database building structure. note that I'm not saying that this should have a material consequence for this or future tournaments, just interested in the thought process.
EDIT: actually, RYM is more reliable than Discogs because it is transparent in why the changes it makes occur. Song Cyle was changed from a 1968 to 1967 release based on this scan from Van Dyke Parks's twitter (sidebar - what a fucking insane day of releases) and this article discussing it having "just been released" from December 1967.
