  • Post subject: Suggestions on Artists/Albums of the Indie Folk genre?
Maybe it's just a convention of the modern adolescent listener (like me) to indulge in the Indie Folk sub-genre, but I'd really like if someone could please make recommendations on artist/albums of this particular style. Now I listen to artists like Sufjan, The Decemberists, Bright Eyes, M. Ward and etc. And I feel as if there is more that I'm missing out on, instead of being ironed into these perceptions. It can absolutely anyone or anything I will listen to, modern or less so. Thank you for suffering through this.

Subscribe to watchlistentell on Youtube. They upload videos of indie artists playing acoustic sets in various beautiful outdoor settings. There's a lot of great folk music to be discovered there.

A bit of an obvious one, but if you haven't listened, get on that Iron & Wine. Specifically this album:

Our Endless Numbered Days by Iron And Wine

Came here to give some of the canon stuff and this is absolutely one of the first that comes to mind. It's a little hard to tell what you have/haven't heard since you've got no charts or ratings, so I apologize for redundancy. I'll try and skip anything that was already rec'd to you in the Lo-Fi thread, though:

Uprooted by The Antlers

You Are Free by Cat Power

The Stage Names by Okkervil River

Veneer by José González

And now for a *little* (emphasis on a little) different indie folk, or stuff that is sort of a mix of indie folk and other genres:

Painted Shut by Hop Along

Veckatimest by Grizzly Bear

Riot On An Empty Street by Kings Of Convenience

Be The Void by Dr. Dog

Visiter by The Dodos

Ghost by Radical Face

People That Can Eat People Are The Luck...kson Jihad
