I've actually never listened to a Muse album all the way through, but I've been meaning to. Knights of Cydonia is incredible.
Should I start with this one? _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

This is where they started to suck. The non-singles are a bore, and the singles are cringeworthy.

My favorite is The Resistance, but a lot of people really don't like that album.
This one is my second favorite, it's not as raw as their earlier albums, I could understand an argument of it being too polished, but the songs are just awesome. I mean, yea, Muse doesn't write the best lyrics, Matthew Bellamy is know Bob Dylan, but the music is fantastic. Dominic Howard's drumming in "Assassin" is nuts and "Knights of Cydonia" just kicks ass as a whole, a band I was in used to cover it and it's just a blast to play.
Anyways, it's probably Muse's "poppiest" album, if you could call it that, but I love it myself. _________________ Progressive Rock

Matthew Bellamy: Okay and for the album cover we want four bald guys sitting around a wooden table, in casual conference on a barren red surface.
Designer: Why?
Matthew Bellamy: Well it's to represent how the government will continue to hold meetings and relish in power while the Earth is being destroyed of course. Oh! They're gonna need garish 80's retro future suits.
Designer: What should those look like?
Matthew Bellamy: You know, futurey. Gold suitss a suit hanging with silver mirrors those sort of things.
Designer: Any particular order they should be sitting in?
Matthew Bellamy: No.... No wait! The one closest to the camera should have eyes all down the back of his suit since you know THE GOVERNMENT IS ALWAYS WATCHING
Designer: And what about the last guy?
Matthew Bellamy: I don't fucking care give him some spirals or shit.
Designer: Alright that sounds good. Anything else?
Matthew Bellamy: Yeah shittily photoshop in the Earth and the moon.

No. I agree with Apperil. I haven't listened to it too much but this isn't my favourite album by Muse at all. Start with Origin of Symmetry, then go for Absolution.

Knights of Cydonia is a pain to play on Guitar Hero
Sorry, I have to stay on topic. It's a shame that this was there last good album. But I don't look at it like that. I just see it as another Muse gem.

This is probably their most inviting album. It has a lot of their popular singles, and some great non-singles as well. Origin of symmetry is better though, so if you're planning on listening to a bunch of their albums I would start with OOS, then go chronologically until BH&R. If you like their earlier sound, listen to Showbiz, if you like where they were going with BH&R, go to The Resistance and continue chronologically from there. I started from this one, then went to 2nd law and then to origin of symmetry, which gave me an appreciation for all muse, whether it's showbiz or drones, but for a newcomer I would recommend what I said above. Enjoy!
