This album. My chart is itโ€™s only home, currently ranking at 878 for 2018.

12 Little Spells by Esperanza Spalding

Itโ€™s the NY Times #4 best album of the year.
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/06/arts/music/best-albums.html

Itโ€™s easily as interesting as her last album, that 60 people had on their chart, ranking at 70 for the year.

If you like 70s singer/songwriter or AOR music, then check out this unearthed album from late 70s 80s California.

What a great idea for a thread.

So far, two great suggestions which are now on my chart.

I was aware of the Spalding but had forgotten about it.

Thanks, Chief, as I'd never heard Kincannon and that is a wonderful record (at least based on just the one listen through).

I have two entries here, although if you're not a prog fan, neither are likely to make it onto your charts.

The first is the new Spock's Beard album, Noise Floor.
Many fans understandably thought the Beard would lose its luster with the departure of group founder Neal Morse three albums ago, the remaining musicians are still the awesome musicians you'd expect from a seminal prog band. Others might also decry the more commercial direction of this album, but it's still got strong prog elements... and it often rocks hard as well. A great addition for any fan of the genre who is still okay with a little AOR bleed in to their prog.

The second is the new Phideaux, Infernal
Some prog leans on instrumental virtuosity, some on composition. Phideaux, while still full of solid musicianship, is definitely a composition band, and Infernal shows this off. nicely. Some parts shine well more than others, but overall, it's a great double and holds together well. Another great input for fans of the genre.

Lazuli by Hilde Marie Holsen

Mogic by Hen Ogledd

Cruel Practice by Shygirl

Beheaded Totem by HHY & The Macumbas

Perder Planetas by Nicotina Es Primavera

Khonnar by Deena Abdelwahed

Skald by Wardruna

And a couple more near the bottom. Great records. Lazuli is a can't miss.

Mogic is a Richard Dawson project, but if you dug his 2017 effort, this is completely different (but still very good).

Here are three that are only on my chart and have two votes or less:

#26 on my chart:

I Don't Want: The Gold Fire Sessions by Santigold

Santigold goes dancehall with Dre Skull and the result might be her best record since her debut.

#41 on my chart:

Infections Of A Different Kind (Step I) by AURORA (NO)

Gorgeous art pop that's sometimes hooky enough for radio play.

#91 on my chart:

Welcome To Paradise Vol. III: Italian Dream House 90-94 by Various Artists

The third volume of this really good Italian house compilation series is full of overlooked 90s gems.

The Hilvarenbeek Recordings by Biosphere

In my opinion, one of their best.

The Modern Art Of Setting Ablaze by Mantar

I haven't done by 2018 chart yet, but I deemed this good enough to go on my all time chart. Greatest sludge metal ever. And I actually had to add it to the database.
