I have an unfavorable opinion this isn't their best album.
I'll take Rated R over it any day and pending my mood, another album or two of theirs.
It's a fantastic record though, and anything Dave Grohl touches is usually nearly gold, as with this record (I know he just drummed, but still).
Although this aspect of it is pretty solid:
Quote: | This record was supposed to sound bizarre—like lightning in a bottle. We also were extremely fucked up. It even sounds that way to me, like a crazy person. The radio interludes are supposed to be like the drive from L.A. to Joshua Tree, a drive that makes you feel like you’re letting go—more David Lynch with every mile. |

This is actually exactly how I rank them, except I gave Villians benefit of the doubt. Maybe in a few years the [insert word here] will fade away.
I'm surprised with how different our tastes were with some other albums.

QOTSA is awesome. Enjoy, and if this doesn't hook you, check the others, probably in the order Chief and I agree upon... or whatever.

The album that cemented QOTSA as one of the biggest rock bands of the 2000s, their level of influence is comparable to The White Stripes at this point, due to the amount of bands who ripped them off were heavily inspired by their music. And looking past the now iconic singles, Songs For The Deaf as an album holds up really well, as it has more going on with its arrangements, concept and structure that a lot of these modern rock bands fail to grasp. They'd much rather go for the "tonic guitar chord followed by blues-y lick, repeat until you expunge your eardrums with your own plectrum" approach that is so tired nowadays. But whatever, this album is great. _________________

This is one of those albums that I remember understanding was fantastic at an "academic" level if you will, but I just couldn't personally get into it. Maybe I should give it another go in the future.

Already heard Rated R a long time ago, and I really really really really liked it. Gonna revisit that album 's well.
