Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 82.9/100, a mean average of 82.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 83.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.2.

What an album. Love the mixture of vocalists (Homme, Oliveri and Lanegan all play their part and add something a little different) but honestly would have preferred more Lanegan. The guitar riffs are absolutely unreal. Track 1, Millionaire, is probably the coolest song ever written. A Song For The Dead is now my favourite song - like a soundtrack to a zombie apocalypse. 5+ minutes of pure energy. Of course A Song For The Deaf, No One Knows, Go With The Flow and First It Giveth are also brilliant.

One of the last great rock records that presented something new to the genre.

Rock
Didn't initially think I was gonna like this - but had been set up in recent years with the likes of Foo Fighters and Pearl Jam to be open to this. I find it a bit of a mixed album in terms of severity of rock from metal to ballad. But I feel it works well overall and never gets boring. Only got to hear this first time in 2019.

The record is really heavy and is one of the better rock records in the 2000's. There are incredible moments where the vocals and instrumentation just blend perfectly and this happens on many occasions on this album. However, there are definitely flaws in this record including the fact that it is quite inconsistent and it does trail off near the back end. It also doesn't completely captivate or grab me when I listen to it. Despite this I do thoroughly enjoy this record but wouldn't call it one of the all time greats.
