I remember getting this immediately upon it's release early in my college years and being pleased. My roommate and I spun it many a time.

Now, I can't stand it (just like any other U2).

We all know that U2 does not get a lot of love on this site. I won't argue that. I would like to ignore the entire Music volume of U2 and focus on this album.

When this album came out it was revolutionary. This album represented fresh new music, youthful exuberance and a newfound energy created by the singing of Bono and the guitar work of the edge.
The 3 opening tracks are absolutely killer. Sunday Bloody Sunday, seconds and New Year's Day are phenomenal. You could forecast from this album that U2 were going to create some magical moments. In the early days of the band these guys were the real deal. This album is very good and worth listening to.

One of the most powerful and energetic albums of the 80's. Every song is just bursting with life.

I'd like a minute to talk about how insane Bono's vocal performances on this album are. Sure he can be a questionable and polarising figure, but there's absolutely no denying that his singing on the 80's U2 albums is absolutely top notch, esp. on this album. He just had so much energy and heart in his high register, and sang so uncompromisingly powerful no wonder his voice went in the coming years. Just listen to his singing on Like a Song, mindblowing stuff.
