Will we ever bare

Orphaned Land kind of stands out among the sea of contemporaries in progressive metal and by the point they were writing “From Broken Vessels” they had finally found their sound, so to speak. The early facets of doom metal and death metal are still there, but their artistic and lyrical maturity had finally come into its own. Among progressive metal songs at the time, you really couldn't mistake Orphaned Land with anybody else. They were [and are] unique and its not just because they happen to be a progressive metal band from the Middle East. Even if you compare them to Amassafer and Myrath, you really can't mistake them. Their spirituality has a lot to do with it, for sure, but it goes well and beyond that.

This is the strongest song from Orwarrior and it still, for me, holds up.

Gowi, at least after hearing From Broken Vessels I'm sufficiently intrigued to find out more about the rest of the album.

I didn't know either of the two songs in this duel. I liked From Broken Vessels enough, but I was won over by Baby. DakhaBrakha is a very nice discovery. Thanks to Meccalecca.

DhakaBraka seem cool, but their throwback, soulful, folky, mantra-rock seems to hide the fact that it's not very interesting behind a couple of textural changes. It's basically Alabama Shakes, right?

Not massive on Orphaned Land either, though I will readily admit that it's a strain of metal that does not particularly interest me and which I know nothing about. There's a groove there, but it feels rote and robotic.

Likely abstain, but will try both again later in the hope that something clicks with either.

Thought it'd be an easy vote for Orphaned Land, but Baby was very solid. It is basically Alabama Shakes, but a much more interesting version of their brand of soul/blues/rock
