Hi. I'm not going to clutter the opening post with my personal opinions... that will probably happen after others have added some of their own. But I am curious.
So, what makes a great album great... to you?

Atmosphere.
Gimmicks.
Hilarity.
Raw Power. 😎
Creativity.
Bullet Points.

Really needs to shake me to my core. I don't care if it's three amazing songs and ten shitty ones, if those three songs can make me feel legitimately sad, furious, excited, etc. then I'm going to call it a great album. I don't place much value on consistency if all that does is give me something I won't remember anytime soon.

For me it is ALL ABOUT the emotions and how the music makes me feel. An album has to stir and churn everything inside me.
I have to feel pain and pleasure, sadness and happiness, heat and shivers, energy and power, tranquility and peace, the past, present and future - all on one album. My favourite albums make me laugh and cry in equal measure and have the power to pull me completely into the music and forget the world around me. Listening to good music makes me glad to be alive and sharpens my senses so that i tingle and know the value of life... if I don't get that from an album, it might be technically great but it will never be the greatest.

It has to make me feel some emotion. If not that, than it has to make me think. Also, liking it helps a lot too. But most of all, the idea of taking the listener on a journey is big for me too. This is why I love Astral Weeks. It takes me on a journey every time I listen, while meeting the other criteria as well.
