The melodic masterpiece The Beatles never made and Ringo never drummed, but Elvin Jones or Max Roach probably would've if they were into butt rock.

(Sorry for the nonsense ... thats an in-joke with RoundTheBend, basically an allusion to an old conversation/argument that somehow progressed from the Beatles merits to Ringo's merits vs Elvin Jones/Max Roach, to Appetite for Destruction's merits)

Perfect example of an album I thought was super hot when it first came out, but over the years I have set aside and don't really care if I ever hear it again.

1. Teenage years - amazing album, one of the best albums ever
2. Phase of branching out and exploring other genres which leads to some snobbism and elitism - not that great.
3. Mature phase with a more fully rounded musical taste - appreciating this album for the great hard rock album which it is.

the songs on this album are nothing short of stunning, from the sarcasm of "its so easy" to the
sincerity of "sweet child of mine".
its not just what the songs have to say that impresses me - the music is magnificent.
there is a admirable degree of complexity. a range that surprises me- from the
riffs of "mr. brownstone" to the thrash like intensity of "you're crazy".

Truthfully, the only thing i never enjoyed was the "aerosmith-style boogie".

when it came out, i listened to it once a month, so i never really overdosed on this album.
today, looking back, i believe that it was a cutting edge album, with such incredible energy that compares to the great ones;
ie exile on main street or let it bleed
this album is that significant.

Laughing

Yup - probably the last time this was album of the day too.

Careful though - Elvin or Max wouldn't choose to drum on this album. Laughing

this album has a lot of energy and attitude and I love it.
Terribly distasteful cover though.

Hard rock is about rhythm, attitude and energy, and Appetite for Destruction oozes all three.
