Recently we had a revamp the overall chart to your liking thread and then I stumbled up on this... might be fun to share notes:
Best Album per Year by RoundTheBend
There was a 2016 thread but wanted to start something fresh.

Good thread idea RTB!
Here is my chart:
https://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart.php?c=62454
And I don't care that some of my choices may be " popular " ones, or that some of my chart may be uncool (see 2000-2020).
It's just what I like. I don't care about popularity contests!
By the way, this was hard.
The years 1967, 1969, 1970, 1987 and 1991 were particularly difficult, but I just went with my gut.

And lots of key albums to listen to for the 2000s (not as much for Rock, but especially Jazz). _________________ Best Classical

Great picks erybody.
Some of them so good I went to go see what I chose instead to see if I'd replace it.
Also kinda surprised of The Doors exclusion for Red Crayola AH, but it also makes sense too.

Thanks! Doors is actually 1966 so barely got beat out by VU and Nico.
I tend to go by recording dates so my selections wont always align with BEA. Personally I think its kind of silly to go by distribution date. When the artist(s) completed & recorded the work seems much more important than when the label distributed it. Just like when a Classical composer composed the work is whats most important. _________________ Best Classical

On Spotify right now, I'm currently putting in all of the albums I can find that I have listened to into year playlists. It's a bit daunting, but I've gone from 1965 to 1983 so far.
That means I've been thinking about this a lot.
I'll start at 65 since that's where my playlists start. Most of these picks are tried and true favorites, but some others are just what I'm fancying at the moment.
1965: A Love Supreme by John Coltrane
1966: Hums of the Lovin' Spoonful by The Lovin' Spoonful
1967: Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles
1968: The Village Green Preservation Society by The Kinks
1969: Hot Buttered Soul by Isaac Hayes
1970: Black Sabbath/ Paranoid by Black Sabbath (just pretend they're a double album.)
1971: Surf's Up by The Beach Boys
1972: Hosianna Mantra by Popol Vuh
1973: Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock
1974: Red by King Crimson
1975: Another Green World by Brian Eno
1976: Songs In The Key of Life by Stevie Wonder
1977: Sunshower by Taeko Ohnuki
1978: Chairs Missing by Wire
1979: 20 Jazz Funk Greats by Throbbing Gristle
1980: Remain in Light by Talking Heads
1981: Juju by Siouxsie and the Banshees
1982: Hex-Enduction Hour by The Fall
1983: Swordfishtrombones by Tom Waits
1984: Zen Arcade by Husker Du
1985: Texas Funeral Jon Wayne
1986: Atomizer by Big Black
1987: Paid In Full by Eric B & Rakim
1988: God In Three Persons by The Residents
1989: Wrong by Nomeansno
1990: Chill Out by The KLF
I'll add the rest later.

Yeah - thanks for the clarification.
Often tricky these dates... same with classical music... sometimes written over a decade/lifetime... then premiered 10 years after their death... but then sometimes published but not performed until 20 years later... it's like if the tree fell in a forest kind of thing.
But makes sense why you feel the way you do, even if I was secretly hoping for The Doors to fill that 1967 slot there instead... hehe.
Another thing I think is cool is I think most of us got a Thelonious Monk record in on the 50s.
