What are your favorite wintery albums BEA? Or just stuff you're throwing on for the changing of the seasons? I've been enjoying this one a lot lately myself.

I've heard this one the other day, it does seem rather cold and wintery. Agalloch are my go-to band for winter, although at Christmas time I always get the urge to listen to The Pogues, U2, Fleet Foxes, Sufjan, Joni Mitchell, Bill Callahan and Nick Cave for some reason. I guess I like folk vibes in that period of the year. Generally, winter bands/genres for me are coldwave, Duke Ellington, Biosphere, a lot of wintery black metal, Phil Elverum, some "colder" electronic (specifically, minimal techno), Riyuichi Sakamoto, mum... Not all of this makes sense or is "wintery" in either the sound or lyrics, but it's what I go for.

when I was younger and a wee wee lad of 25 I would say that

For Emma, Forever Ago by Bon Iver

is the perfect winter, snow on the ground, muffled tranquility album.

Now that I am a less wee lad of 30 I don't say this, although its still true.

JK of course. While in some music nerd parts this artist and album are considered corny and heav-handed these days, it still hits that strangely peaceful, snugly winter melancholy as good as any album.

also, these communicate that amazing feeling really well in my opinion

Dragging A Dead Deer Up A Hill by Grouper

a little this

In A Silent Way by Miles Davis

and that is all that is coming to mind right now for some reason.

Winter is easily my fave season and I think there is no better and more peaceful feeling than the wuiet that comes over the world when there are a few inches of snow caking everything, the cars are muffled, the world is still, and everything is just... right.

edit: large chunks of this album express the snugly and peaceful yet ruminative and somewhat sad feeling well - and no not just talking about the grandmommy of these types songs "River"...

Blue by Joni Mitchell

...idk, maybe its just the cover art?

I agree with many of these, esp Agalloch, Kate Bush and Bon Iver.

This is one of my go-to winter albums:

If On A Winter's Night... by Sting

By the way I love the single December Will Be Magic Again by Kate Bush, but it's not available for streaming on my music provider. Kinda wish I had a good vinyl copy of the single. Although I can watch it on Youtube.

Yeah honestly this. One of my lockdown achievements is that I can finally pick along to a few Fahey tracks.
