Amazing amazing debut album from the King.
Musically, better than Thriller.

Killer grooves and hooks. I don't like the schmaltzy ballad but other than that it's really good. Can't say I've heard a better disco album so rec me if you think you can top it.

BTW, I'm pretty sure it was not his debut!

There are numerous better examples of disco as a genre, though many are compilations of singles. Check the remixes of Larry Levan or Tom Moulton or Walter Gibbons. You can find great compilations of the Donna Summer extended mixes that top this. Any of the early Chic albums top this. Sylvester, particularly Step II. Cerrone 3: Supernature by Cerrone. Diana by Diana Ross. The Glow of Love by Change. The disco bits of Get Loose by Evelyn "Champagne" King. Love Is Back by Love Unlimited. I'd probably say they're more boogie than disco, but the first two Imagination albums are both better than this.

My first ports of call would be:

Philadelphia International Classics: Th...om Moulton

Padlock: Special Mixes By Larry Levan by Gwen Guthrie

The Dance Collection (A Compilation Of ...nna Summer

Step II by Sylvester

Nile Rodgers Presents: The Chic Organiz...us Artists

Thanks Skinny- these look like great starting points. The only one I've previously heard is the Diana Ross album you mentioned. Yeah, that one was really good. Not sure if I liked it as much as Off the Wall though. Need to revisit.
