I mostly just come back to a few songs with this album. I haven't listened to it in a long time since I usually pick another Springsteen album. I dust off One Step Up and Tougher Than the Rest every now and then.

Yeah agree with this. Tunnel of Love is a solid album but if I'm looking for that era of Springsteen, there's just better stuff that calls to me more. Honestly I'm surprised this is in the top 1000, there's better albums from later in Springsteen's career which would be more deserving. _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!
This album gets so overlooked by so many people. It's actually really, really good. "Ain't Got You", "Brilliant Disguise", "All That Heaven Will Allow", plus the tracks mentioned above...
...and this one is a scorcher:

This album came out when I was in college and, being a Bruce fan from the early eighties, I picked it up without hesitation. It was different, especially from the bombastic 'Born in the USA', but I found it very compelling. It was very personal and intimate, which hit home for me personally at the time. I was dealing with my first real "love" - and it was a real roller-coaster of a relationship. Being 18, I was ill-equipped to handle it. This album got me through some long nights. I remember 'Brilliant Disguise' and 'One Step Up' really moving me. I can understand why it's not a favorite among fans of the Boss, but for me it has real sentimental value.
No one should be allowed to listen to this album until they have several yrs of marriage under their belt!! Lol
I found that this album is about loniless and solitude with the promise of bliss if you get married. As you know, love brings doubt and guilt. And no one sings it better than the boss. He wrote it after his 1st marriage ended and it is absolutely incredible.
To my surprise, it was in rolling stones top 500 albums. I think it was at 460 or close to it.
It is his most under- rated album, but don't think for a moment, that its not exceptional.
