I must be one of the few who enjoys 2001 better. 2001 seems like it has all the hits except "G Thang"

The album that put Death Row on the map. And also establish the solo careers of both Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. It's one of my top 50 favorite albums of all time.

then we're two

... but this is literally one of the most important albums in history, perhaps the most important/essential album of the 90s (moreso than Nm and OKC)

Oh for sure, hard to argue that. As joedec sorta said, The Chronic made Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg into household names and put Death Row on the map. It cemented Dre as the most impressive member of N.W.A.

2001 just has my favorite Dre and Snoop songs, and IMO flows a little better

I have to admit I've never been a fan. Sure, production is top-notch, but lyrics are meh - to put it mildly - and the rapping by anyone not named Snoop leaves a lot to be desired.
It's been highly influential, that's for sure, but most important album of the '90s? I think that may be a stretch. I'd say Low End Theory is ahead and it's not even close - and that's without even getting to other genres, where there are more examples. G-Funk was a thing way before this came out, Dr.Dre was already a veteran, this simply perfected it and helped get everyone's attention - and kept almost every West Coast producer busy for a good 4-5 years trying to imitate it.

I don't think 2001 comes close to this as an album. 2001 has those incredible singles though which are better than anything on the chronic but overall no contest.
