These are some nuts first round matches, though ultimately this was an easier decision for me since I nominated one of them...
I was torn between "Ya Habibti" and "Afrique Victime", I wonder if that would've made a difference. I was also strongly considering nominating something by Little Simz, but "Point and Kill" wouldn't have been my pick. That said, I clearly overlooked "Point and Kill", it's a great track. _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!
I only recently saw the Point and Kill video for the first time. Really fun. Presumably in the spirit of Nigerian cinema? Which I seem to recall is a massive industry.
Anyway, both great infectious rhythms and a strong match up, though I stuck with my nom. I’m not biased or anything 🤥
Edit: in fairness, maybe we should credit Obongjayar as a featured artist on the Simz track? My bad that I forgot to mention this when I nominated.

Point and Kill was certainly not one of my fave on Little Simz latest LP. And actually I don’t like it much. Which is a shame because almost half the songs on that album I quite like or think are great.
However, on the flip side Mdou Moctar is a band I like in small doses and Ya Habibti is one of the best of those small doses. One of the less obviously electric blues sounding of the tracks on that LP if I recall correctly. Overall this track just has a good vibe to it that I love.
Yeah neither of the 2 songs nominated from Sometimes I Might Be Introvert are my faves, but both are still good, obviously. Mdou Moctar is cool, I've never been blown away by his music though, and the same goes for Ya Habibti. Simz gets the vote in the end. _________________ Overall chart Fake overall chart

Another great match up. Mdou Moctar for me. TBH I would have probably voted for any track from Afrique Victime even though Point and Kill is a great song. It's just that good! Shame to see either of these go really.
